I'm currently with Rogers (just pay as you go on my LG Shine / LG TU720 as I don't use voice much) and am *really* interested in getting an unlocked Droid off Ebay...

Has anyone had experience with this? I realize the Milestone (I HATE that name) has been released for Telus.. but if Telus isn't a GSM network, how does it work for them ? According to Motorola, the Droid is a CDMA phone

So I'm guessing there's 2 versions of it - the CDMA (Telus) and the GSM (Verizon in the US). So an unlocked US GSM Droid should work on Rogers, I HOPE.

Anyway, my question is regarding voice/data plans to go with the phone.

The mixed voice/data plans with Rogers are TERRIBLE. You only get 500MB of data for $50/month, and 150 talk mins.

Now, with a Smartphone data plan for $30/month I could get 1GB, but no voice.

Both those plans don't include the "Government Regulatory Recovery Fee" aka. the BS fee. EDIT: oops, plus the $6.95 "System Access Fee" (aka. BS2 fee) it looks like.

To summarize, I'd like to use a Motorola Droid GSM on Rogers, mainly for data, but with a bit of voice. Any advice??

    Thanks in advance!!

Telus has and will be getting many more phones that are both GSM and CDMA in the future. Currently they have Blackberrys, HTC and the New Motorola Milestone Supporting both GSM and CDMA Chipsets.
Thanks! But I really want the "Droid" version. Simply aesthetics of the name. Of course, I'd have to order an unlocked GSM version from the States...

I'm going to wait on it as I'm also interested in the Nexus One, which apparently supports all Rogers GSM bands, but doesn't have a signal amplifier on them to get 3G on Rogers GSM, only 2G speeds (the chip to get 3G is -there-, but it's not amplified, from what I've read). I'm only on pay-as-you-go with Rogers right now with my LG Shine so if/when the Nexus One is released on a carrier up here, I'll switch carriers to get it, if need be.

    Cheers!
