I'm moving to Florida from the UK next month, I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3.
I am using it on a contract free, 1200 minutes, unlimited text/web (£17 a month)
Over here if I wanted to change carrier I would just put the new sim card into the phone and it would work. However I'm not sure that would work in the US as not all carriers even use sim cards?

Would I be able to use it in Florida?
I've tried looking online at AT&T/Verizon etc and they all want me to select a phone first, could anyone recommend a carrier/plan where I can use my existing phone?

    Thanks for any help

The use of SIM cards is not by cell phone carrier but by phone I believe. I know that some Verizon phones do not use SIM cards but most of their Android phones do. I would call the customer service number to find out for sure.

You shouldn't have a problem activating it on AT&T. You'll just need to get an AT&T SIM. Verizon would be a little harder to do since they use 4g SIMs in a different way than AT&T, and use different CDMA frequencies that your phone probably doesn't have activated.

You may not be able to get true 4g lte data though. Probably only HSPA or HSPA+ 3g/4g

Not sure why this got moved, this was more of a general service question.
Is there any US carrier that allow use of an existing phone?
The phone was brought from Best Buy in Florida unlocked, and worked fine here in the UK, so I presumed it would work the same, but I'm a bit confused how it all works over in Florida, the only plans I can see on AT&T want me to buy another phone
Ideally all I want to do is buy a plan I like, get the new sim and put in the phone.

You can use your phone on Straight Talk. The cost is $45 per month with unlimited talk, text, and data on AT&T's network.

You can purchase a SIM card and first month of service bundle for just $59.99.
