At my house I have Linksys open which isn't mine and on my router it say available and WI-FI direct is on and I see my router so when I'm at home should I put my Wi-Fi on my router because it requires a password which I have but is there any benefit to it?

Is there a benefit to putting a password on your wifi router? Yes, so other people don't steal your internet connection and/or intercept data that you send back and forth.

I'm sorry I was asking is there any benefit to "Go to Settings, WI-FI which is on, and selecting your router"

Yes. You connect to your network when you select your router. I'm still not sure I know what you're asking.

    Re: Wi-fi

My phone works fine using the Internet and making calls. If I tap into my router I will get better reception, but I don't need it so is there a benefit to select your router otherwise everything works fine. I was wondering would my Internet be faster by taping into my router because I think we using WI-FI direct but I'm new and just asking questions. On a laptop you just select the router which is yours and not the 5 neighbors which have a password only. I hope you understand my question because I'm 65 and a computer geek but I don't know crap about phones.

The internet on your phone will probably be faster by using your wifi connection, sure. Wifi and cellular 3g/4g data are two separate things. More than likely have an allotted amount of data use from your provider. If you use wifi on your phone the internet use doesn't go against that allotment of data.

    Re: Wi-fi

You can connect to your router and enable your mobile data at the same time if you have unlimited internet on your phone. I believe the phone will connect to the internet using the wifi first and only use the one from your sim if the connection is weak is slow. However, if your own internet is faster than your wifi, then there's really no need to connect to the router anymore. It's useful to have both if one of your connections is not stable. I just use my wifi when I'm at home because it's way faster than my 3G.

I suggest you use your own wifi when you're at home this way you'll be able to maximize the speed and at the same time safer..

    Re: Wi-fi

It is a benefit to ME when people don't have a password on their router. I can access the internet that way. I have never done anything lillegal, though, and wouldn't think of doing that. Heck, I don't even know how to.
