I have exhausted the insurance for my at&t phone and have been actively seeking another. I am interested in a new no contract phone and on my quest have come across "unlocked international cell phones" on amazon; I'm interested specifically in a Galaxy S2 or S3. My question is, will I have a problem using a phone like this on my at&t carrier? Will I have to contact at&t to have it "activated"?

Re: Unlocked International Samsung Phone Questions
You shouldn't have a problem using the phone on AT&T, no. Just make sure you have the APN settings set correctly for AT&T in the phone so you can get data. You will not be able to get 4g LTE though since AT&T uses different frequencies than everyone else.

does it have to be international? or can it just be unlocked?? 4g LTE isn't so important to me just as long as I can access the data when necessary.

As long as it's not a CDMA version then you should be fine. It doesn't even have to be unlocked - you can get it unlocked by one of the vendors on this site. It'll probably save you some money since unlocked phones usually go for a premium. See here for the different Galaxy SIII models.

Re: Unlocked International Samsung Phone Questions
THANK YOU so so much!! I literally know NOTHING about how cell phones work. I've had the same one and the same carrier for years! If you don't mind, what does CDMA mean? I've seen GSM everywhere also have no idea what that means.

Re: Unlocked International Samsung Phone Questions
btw, if you can wait for the S4 to come out (probably on all carriers by the end of this month) you can probably save a bit. This SIII looks pretty good to me: Amazon.com: Samsung Galaxy SIII S3 SGH-I747 White AT&T 4G LTE Unlocked Cell Phone No Contract No Warranty - AT&T Logos [Carrier Retail Packaging]: Cell Phones & Accessories

Re: Unlocked International Samsung Phone Questions
I actually have this one saved! I thought it would be my best bet because it clearly says AT&T on it, I just feel like I could be more informed. You're a total life saver thank you SO much!!
