Backing Up Applications:
- While viewing the home screen, press the "Menu" key
- Tap "Settings" and tap "Backup and reset" under the "Accounts" tab. NOTE: You need to be logged in to your Google account in order to back up applications. If you need to add one, tap "Backup account" > "Add account"
- Optionally, mark the check boxes associated with "Backup my data" and "Backup account"
Backing Up Contacts to a Samsung or Google Account:
- From the home screen, tap "Contacts"
- Press the "Menu" key
- Select "Merge contacts"
- Choose either "Merge with Google" or "Merge with Samsung"
- If required, log in with your Google or Samsung account
Backing up Contacts on the SD Card:
- From the home screen, open "Contacts"
- Optionally, press the "Menu" key > "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Press the "Menu" button and tap "Import / Export"
- Select "Export to SD card". Optionally, rename the backup file as you desire
- Tap "OK" to confirm
Backing up Media Files Using Your Smartphone (SD Card):
- Tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
- Tap "My Files "> "All files"
- Select "Device storage". NOTE: if you wish to backup all your files, press "Menu" > "Select all" and skip to step 6
- Browse the files containing your media files. NOTE: media files are stored in "Notifications", "Downloads" etc, and pictures captured with the camera are found in the "DCIM" folder
- Mark the check box located to the left of ever file / folder that you want to backup
- Press the "Menu" icon located in the upper-right corner
- Select "Copy" or "Move" (Moving files do not create duplicates)
- Select "SD memory card" and if necessary, navigate to the desired folder
- Tap "Paste here" (or "Move here", depending on the case)
Backing up Media Files Using a Windows PC:
- Connect your smartphone to your computer via USB
- Drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device", then mark the "Media device" check box
- On your computer, when the Windows Explorer window pops-up, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer". (If the auto-run does not start, access the device's storage directory manually)
- Navigate to the files / folders that you wish to backup
- Copy the files and paste them in the desired location on your computer
- Once the transfer is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone (click the icon in the system tray)
Backing up Media Files Using a Mac:
- If necessary, use your Mac to navigate to samsung.com/kies and download > install Kies software for Mac OS
- Use the USB cable to establish a connection between your phone and Mac
- Drag the status bar on your handset, and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device"
- Open Kies on your Mac and go to the "Back up / restore" tab
- Click the "Backup" tab
- Mark the check boxes associated with "Music" and / or "Photo". Optionally, mark the "Select all items" check box to back up all the files
- Click "Backup"
- Once finished, safely disconnect your device from your computer
