Backing Up Applications:

  1. While viewing the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to "Accounts"
  3. Tap "Backup and reset". NOTE: in order to back up your apps, you need to be logged in to a Google account. If you need to add one, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen instructions
  4. If necessary, mark the check boxes next to "Backup my data" and "Backup account"

Contact Backup

Backing Up Contacts to a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Tap the "Contacts" icon located on the home screen
  2. Press the "Menu" key
  3. Tap "Merge contacts" and select either "Merge with Google" or "Merge with Samsung"
  4. Log in to your Google or Samsung account

Backing Up Contacts to Your SD Card:

  1. Open the "Contacts" application
  2. Press the "Menu" button, tap "Contacts to display" and select "All contacts"
  3. Press the "Menu" button and tap "Import / Export"
  4. Select "Export to SD card". A pop-up will appear, displaying the file name for the backup file. Record the name if you need to
  5. Tap "OK"

Media File Backup

Backing Up Media Files on the SD Card:

  1. Tap "Apps" on the home screen
  2. Tap "My files" > "All files" > "Device storage". NOTE: to back up all the files, press "Menu" > "Select all" and then skip to step 5
  3. Navigate to the folders containing the desired media files. NOTE: pictures captured with the camera app are located in the "DCIM" folder. Other media files are in "Notifications", "Downloads" etc.
  4. Mark the check box(es) associated with the files or folders that you want to back up
  5. Tap the "Menu" icon located in the upper-right corner
  6. Tap "Copy" (or "Move" if you don't want to create duplicates)
  7. Select "SD memory card"
  8. Navigate to the desired (target) folder and tap "Paste here" (or "Move" here depending on your initial choice)

Backing Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Use the USB cable to connect your smartphone to your computer
  2. Drag down the "notification" bar and tap "Connected as a media device". Then, mark the "Media device" check box
  3. In the AutoPlay window on your computer, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
  4. Navigate to where the media files are located on your device
  5. Copy the files, and paste them in the desired location on your computer
  6. Once finished, safely disconnect your smartphone

Backing Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

  1. If you don't have Kies installed on your Mac, visit SAMSUNG KIES and click "Download for Mac OS"
  2. After installing Kies, connect your smartphone to your Mac via USB
  3. Drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device", and mar the "Media device" check box
  4. Launch Kies and click the "Back up / restore" tab
  5. Click "Backup"
  6. Mark the check boxes associated with "Music", "Photo" and any other file types. Optionally, click "Select all items"
  7. Click "Backup"
  8. Once the process finishes, safely disconnect your smartphone
