    Backing Up Applications:

    1. While viewing the home screen, press the "Menu" button
    2. Tap "Settings"
    3. Go to the "Accounts" tab
    4. Tap "Backup and reset". NOTE: in order to back up your apps, you need to be logged in to a Google account. If you need to register one, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen prompts
    5. If necessary, mark the check boxes associated with "Backup my data" and "Backup account"

    Contact Backup

    Backing Up Contacts On a Samsung or Google Account:

    1. Tap the "Contacts" icon located on the home screen
    2. Press the "Menu" button
    3. Tap "Merge accounts"
    4. Select "Merge with Samsung" or "Merge with Google"
    5. Log in to your Samsung or Google account, if necessary

    Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:

    1. From the home screen, tap "Contacts"
    2. Press the "Menu" button and tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
    3. Press the "Menu" key and select "Import / Export"
    4. Tap "Export to SD card". A pop-up window will appear, displaying the name of the backup file. Record the name if necessary
    5. Tap "OK"

    Media File Backup

    Backing Up Media Files Using Your Device:

    1. While viewing the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
    2. Tap "My Files" > "All files"
    3. Select "Device storage". NOTE: if you wish to back up all of the files on your device, press "Menu", tap "Select all" and skip to step 6
    4. Navigate to the folder containing the media files that you wish to back up. NOTE: pictures taken with the phone's camera are stored in the "DCIM" folder. Other media files can be found in "Notifications", "Music", "Downloads" etc.
    5. Mark the check boxes associated with the desired files and / or folders
    6. Tap the "Menu" icon located in the upper-right side of the screen
    7. Tap "Copy" or "Move" if you don't want to create duplicates
    8. Select "SD memory card"
    9. Navigate to the desired backup folder and open it
    10. Tap "Paste here" (or "Move here" depending on your initial choice)

    Backing Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

    1. Establish a connection between your smartphone and computer via USB
    2. On the computer, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
    3. Mark the "Media device" check box
    4. On the computer, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer" in the AutoPlay window
    5. Navigate to where the files are stored on your smartphone
    6. Copy the desired files, and navigate to where you wish to back up your files on the computer
    7. Paste the files on the PC's hard drive
    8. Once the transfer is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer

    Backing Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

    NOTE: follow the first two steps only if you don't have Samsung Kies installed on your Mac computer.

    1. Launch the Internet browser on your computer and navigate to SAMSUNG KIES
    2. Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen instructions to install Kies on your Mac
    3. Use the USB cable to connect your smartphone to your Mac
    4. On the handset, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
    5. Mark the "Media device" check box
    6. On the Mac, launch Kies
    7. In Kies, click the "Back up / restore" tab
    8. Click the "Backup" tab
    9. Mark the check boxes associated with "Photo", "Music" or other types of files that you wish to backup. Optionally, you can mark the "Select all items" check box
    10. Click "Backup"
    11. After the process is done, safely disconnect your smartphone from the Mac
