Backing Up App Data Using a Google Account:
- From the home screen, tap the "Apps" button
- Tap "Settings"
- Tap "Backup and reset"
- Mark the "Back up my data" check box
- Tap "Backup account" and select the desired Google account to use for backup
Backing Up App Data on a Samsung Account:
- Tap "Apps" from the home screen
- Tap "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Add account"
- Select "Samsung account" and sign in with your Samsung account
- Tap "Settings" while viewing the "Apps" screen
- Touch "Cloud" > "Backup" and mark the items you wish to back up
- Tap "Back up now" > "Back up"
Backing up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:
- From the home screen, tap "Contacts"
- Go to the "Contacts" screen and tap "Menu"
- Select "Merge accounts" and select either "Google" or "Samsung account"
- If necessary, sign in with your account
Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:
- From the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Open the "Contacts" app and go to the "Contacts" tab
- Tap "Menu" > "Settings" > "Contacts"
- Select "Import / Export" > "Export to SD card"
- Write down the back up file's name if necessary
- Tap "OK"
Backing Up Media Files on the SD Card:
- Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
- Tap "My Files" > "All files"
- Select "Device storage". NOTE: if you want to back up all your files, press "Menu" > "Select all" and skip to step 6
- Locate the desired files stored on your phone (pictures are in the "DCIM" folder, downloaded content in "Downloads" etc.)
- Mark the check boxes next to the desired files / folders
- Press the "Menu" icon and tap "Copy". Alternatively, you can select "Move" to avoid creating duplicate files
- Tap "SD memory card"
- Navigate to where you want to back up the files and tap "Paste here" / "Move here"
Backing up Media Files Using a Windows Computer:
- Connect your Galaxy S5 to your PC via USB
- If necessary, drag the "Status" bar down on the smartphone, and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device"
- From the AutoPlay window on the computer, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
- Navigate to where the desired files are stored on your smartphone
- Copy the files, and navigate to where you wish to create the backup folder on your computer's HDD
- Paste the files in the backup location
- Once done, safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer
Backing up Media Files Using a Mac Computer:
NOTE: skip the first 2 steps if you already have Kies installed on your Mac computer.
- Open the Internet browser on your Mac and go to SAMSUNG KIES
- Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the instructions to complete the installation process
- Establish a connection between your SGS5 and computer via USB
- If necessary, swipe the "Status" bar down on the S5, and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device"
- Launch Kies on the Mac
- In Kies, click the "Back up / restore" tab
- Click the "Backup" tab
- Mark the check boxes next to "Music", "Photo" and any other type of file that you want to back up. You can also click "Select all items"
- Click "Backup"
- After the process is done, safely disconnect your smartphone
