Enabling and Managing Battery Saving Mode:

  1. While viewing the home screen, press the "Menu" key
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "My device" tab
  4. Tap the "On / Off" switch associated with "Power saving mode" to enable the feature
  5. To adjust how the saver mode works, tap "Power saving mode"
  6. Mark or clear the check boxes associated with the available options, which will be enabled or disabled during power saving mode

Disabling Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot:

  1. From the home screen, press "Menu" > "Settings"
  2. Tap the "Connections" tab
  3. Tap "More networks" > "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot"
  4. Tap the "ON / OFF" switch next to "Mobile Hotsot" and disable the feature
  5. Return to the home screen and swipe the "Status" bar down
  6. Tap the "Bluetooth", "GPS" and "Wi-Fi" icons to disable the features. NOTE: a grey light indicator on the icon means the feature associated with it is disabled

Adjusting the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

NOTE: a lower screen brightness results in a higher battery life. Also, a shorter timeout duration means that the screen is turned on less time.

  1. From the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to "My device"
  3. Tap "Display" > "Brightness"
  4. Clear the check box associated with "Automatic brightness"
  5. Tap and hold the brightness slider, and drag it to the left to set it to a lower value
  6. Tap "OK" to confirm and select "Screen timeout"
  7. Choose a lower setting, such as "15 seconds"

Adjusting Sync Settings for Applications:

  1. Press the "Menu" key while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "Accounts" tab
  4. Under "My accounts", select the desired type of account
  5. You can tap to adjust the sync settings for the selected account type. Generally speaking (depending on the account type), you need to clear check boxes in order to disable sync for various apps
  6. Tap your "user name" or "email address" at the top of the screen to access additional sync settings

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Press "Menu" while viewing a home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and tap the "Connections" tab
  3. Tap "Data usage" and press the "Menu" button
  4. Tap "Restrict background data" to mark the check box

Minimizing the Usage of Third Party Applications:

  1. From any home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "More" tab
  4. Tap "Application manager"
  5. Swipe to the left or right to access the "Downloaded" screen
  6. Select the desired application
  7. Tap "Disable" to turn off the app, or tap "Uninstall" > "OK" to completely remove it

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. Go to the "Settings" menu
  2. Tap the "Connections" tab
  3. Touch "More networks" > "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
  4. To restrict to 2G connectivity, tap "GSM Only"
  5. To return to 4G, select either "LTE / GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)" or "GSM / WCMA (auto connect)"

Updating to the Most Recent Software Version Available:

NOTE: manufacturers sometime release updates that include potential battery life issue fixes, or improvements to the power management systems. As such, following the steps below will have a positive effect on your phone's battery, only if such an update is available.

  1. From any home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "More" tab and tap "About device" > "Software update"
  4. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it
