Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. From the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Go to the "My device" tab
  4. Tap the ON / OFF switch associated with "Power Saving Mode" and enable the feature
  5. To adjust how the mode works, tap "Power Saving Mode" (The text, not the switch)
  6. Clear or mark the check boxes associated with the available options, such as "CPU power saving", "Screen power saving" etc. When checked, these features will be automatically enabled when the Power Saving Mode is turned on

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Adjusting the Timeout Duration:

  1. While viewing the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Go to the "My device" tab
  4. Tap "Display" > "Brightness"
  5. Clear the check box next to "Automatic brightness"
  6. Drag the brightness slider to the left and set it to a lower level
  7. Tap "OK"
  8. To adjust the timeout duration, tap "Screen timeout"
  9. Select a lower setting, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, GPS, Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot and Bluetooth:

NOTE: It's strongly recommended that you disable all connectivity features that are not in use, especially GPS and Bluetooth, as they can have a big impact on your phone's battery performance. To do so:

  1. Press the "Menu" key while on a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to the "Connections" tab
  3. Tap "More networks" > "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot"
  4. Tap the ON / OFF switch associated with "Mobile Hotspot" and turn the feature off
  5. Return to the home screen and swipe the "Status" bar down
  6. Tap the icons associated with "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth" and "GPS" to disable these features

Disabling Background Data:

  1. While on a home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "Connections" tab
  4. Tap "Data usage"
  5. Press the "Menu" button
  6. Mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Changing Sync Settings for Applications:

  1. Press "Menu" while on a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to "Accounts"
  3. Under "My accounts", select the desired account type
  4. Tap the available sync settings for the account type, to adjust sync
  5. Tap your "user name" or "email address" at the top of the screen to adjust additional sync settings
  6. For each category, you can clear check boxes to turn off syncing, or you can tap to increase the interval time for how often the smartphone syncs data

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: Even though you may not use certain third party applications on your phone, these apps can still affect the battery life to a certain extent. This is because even though an app might not run, it can still perform processes in the background. It's recommended that you disable or uninstall unused third party applications.

  1. From the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "More" tab
  4. Tap "Application manager"
  5. Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen
  6. Select the desired application
  7. Tap "Disable" to turn off the app. To completely remove the app, tap "Uninstall" > "OK"

Updating to the Most Recent Software Version Available:

NOTE: the steps below can have a positive effect on your phone's battery life assuming that Samsung has released a new software update that fixes potential battery life issues, or makes tweaks and improvements to the power management system. If no update is available, following the steps below will have no effect.

  1. Press the "Menu" key from the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "More" tab
  4. Tap "About device" > "Software update"
  5. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install it
