Clearing an Application's Data and Cache:

NOTE: If you're experiencing issues with an application (doesn't run correctly, it crashes / freezes etc.) then you can try and fix these problems by wiping the application's data and / or cache.

WARNING! Clearing an application's data will result in the deletion of personal information stored within the app, such as user information, profiles, settings, credit card information, high scores etc.

Clearing an App's cache will not result in personal data loss, so try fixing the issue by wiping the cache first, before clearing the data.

  1. From any home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
  2. Tap "Settings" > "More"
  3. Go to "Application manager" and swipe to the "All" tab
  4. Select the desired app and tap "Clear cache" > "OK"
  5. If wiping the cache hasn't helped, then you can tap "Clear data" > "OK"

Wiping the Phone's Cache Partition:

NOTE: Assuming that your phone is not working correctly, it freezes, crashes etc. then you might consider factory resetting it. However, before doing so, it's highly recommended that you try and fix these problems by clearing the phone's cache partition first. Unlike a master reset, wiping the cache will not result in the deletion of personal data stored on the internal memory. To wipe the cache partition:

  1. Turn off the smartphone
  2. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Power" and "Home" keys at the same time
  3. Once the phone vibrates, let go of the "Power" button
  4. Keep pressing "Volume Up" and "Home" until the "Android System Recover" screen appears
  5. From the recovery menu, press "Volume Down" to navigate to and highlight "Wipe cache partition"
  6. Press the "Power" key to select the option
  7. Wait for your phone to automatically apply the cache wipe, and reboot in normal mode once the process is complete

NOTE: if clearing the cache partition did not help and you wish to apply a factory reset, then visit this link in order to learn how to do so on the Samsung Galaxy Ace Style.
