My wife stopped her subscription on her old Samsung phone (from one provider) and now has a new Samsung phone with a subscription to yet another provider.

She wants to transfer all of her old messages, etc., from the old phone's memory and transfer that to her new phone.

From the Samsung Smart Switch site they clearly state that this app must be installed on _both_ phones.

Is there anyway to get that app onto her old phone? I'm not expecting a positive answer but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask just to be certain.

    Thanks in advance, Dave

Re: is this possible? Smart Switch transfer question

I first posted using my Facebook account. I typed a response here only to have to jump through a few hoops and of course the message I wrote is gone. Here goes .... again ...

My wife's old phone is a Galaxy S2 and her new phone is an S4 Mini.

She had someone take a look and the issue of an incredible number of duplicate contacts has been solved.

At the moment she is more or less happy with the results but is still missing all of her old Whatapps messages (which is not a major issue).

As stated earlier, her old phone has no provider. Is there a way to install Smart Switch on her Galaxy S2? If so, please let us know. Thanks in advance, Dave

You should be able to connect the S2 to a wifi network to download the program, however there isn't any reason that you can't transfer contacts by connecting your Google account to the new phone. They should already be synced with Google.

FYI, it sounds like you tried to post again without being logged in.

    Thanks for replying.

I'm further along. I can access online with the old phone using my wifi router. (I should have realized that was possible but I don't use own nor use a smart phone, I just use our home computer and a tablet.)

The problem now is, I go to download the Smart Switch from the Google App store and also from Samsung, but receive the error code '1000'. The operating system on the older phone is 2.3.3.

I also can see on the screen that the app is installed but when I look 'in the phone' see that the installation failed.

I'm still trying to get this app on the phone but feel free to give me more advice. Thanks! Dave
