WARNING! When you apply a master reset on your smartphone, the device will be restored to original factory settings. Not only that, but all personal data stored on the phone's internal memory will be deleted. This includes contacts, apps, downloaded content, custom ringtones, images, videos etc. However, applying a factory reset won't affect data stored on the SD and SIM cards.

Master Resetting via the Settings Menu:

NOTE: There are two methods of resetting your smartphone, one through the phone's settings menu, and the other through a combination of hardware keys and the Android recovery. To reset your phone from the settings menu:

  1. Ensure that you have backed up all the necessary data stored on your device
  2. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
  3. Go to "Settings"
  4. Swipe to "User and Backup" and then tap "Backup and reset"
  5. If you want, you can clear the check boxes next to "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore"
  6. Tap "Factory data reset" and then touch "Reset device"
  7. In case your smartphone is PIN / password / pattern protected, you will need to enter the unlocking information before proceeding
  8. Tap "OK" and then tap "Delete all" to confirm

Master Resetting via Hardware Keys:

NOTE: This method of factory reset requires you to perform a combination of button presses in order to access the Android System Recovery menu. Perform this method of reset assuming that your phone is unresponsive, it crashes, freezes or otherwise preventing you from applying the reset via the settings menu.

  1. Turn off the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini
  2. Press and hold the "Home", "Power" and "Volume Up" keys simultaneously
  3. Wait for your device to vibrate, and once it does, release the "Power" key but continue holding the "volume up" and "Home" keys
  4. Release all buttons when the "Android System Recovery" menu appears
  5. From the recovery screen, press "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "wipe data / factory reset"
  6. Press "Power" to select the highlighted option
  7. Press "Volume down" to navigate to "Yes - delete all user data" and press "Power" to confirm
  8. Wait for your smartphone to apply the factory reset. Once the process is done, the "Reboot system now" message will be highlighted
  9. Finally, press "Power" again to select the highlighted option and reboot your smartphone in normal mode
