Inserting a Micro SD Card:

  1. Turn off your smartphone
  2. Remove the phone's battery cover
  3. Locate the microSD card slot
  4. Fit the card into the slot with the gold contacts facing down
  5. Carefully slide the card tray back into its slot and replace the back cover
  6. Reboot your smartphone and tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  7. Go to "Settings"
  8. Swipe to "System" and tap "Storage"
  9. Tap "Mount SD Card"

Checking the SD Card Storage:

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "System"
  3. Tap "Storage" and you can view the "Available space" value under "SD Card"

Formatting the SD Card:

WARNING! Formatting the SD card will result in the deletion of all data stored on it. Before proceeding, create backups if necessary.

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "System" and then tap "Storage"
  4. Tap "Format SD card" > "Delete all"

Removing the SD Card:

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and scroll to "System"
  3. Access "Storage" and tap "Unmount SD Card"
  4. Tap "OK" and power off your smartphone
  5. Remove the back cover and gently slide the microSD card out of its slot

Opening or Deleting Files

Managing Files Using a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Samsung Galaxy Avant to your computer using the USB cable
  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "USB connected" > "Connect USB storage"
  3. From the AutoPlay window on your PC, click "Open folder to view files" > "OK"
  4. Navigate to the desired files / folders stored on your smartphone
  5. Open or delete the files
  6. Once you're done, tap "Disconnect storage from PC" on your smartphone

Managing Files Using a Mac Computer:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Galaxy Avant and Mac
  2. Navigate to the desired files and folders on your smartphone
  3. Open or delete the files
  4. When done, click the virtual drive on the desktop (associated with the Avant) and safely disconnect your smartphone

Managing Files Using the Smartphone:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Open "My Files"
  3. Swipe to "Local Storage" and tap "SD card"
  4. Navigate to the desired files or folders
  5. Tap to open a file. To delete a file, tap and hold it, then tap "Delete" > "Yes"

Transferring Files From the SD Card

Transferring Files Between the SD Card and a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Galaxy Avant to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "USB connected"
  3. Tap "Connect USB storage"
  4. From the computer, click "Open folder to view files" > "OK" in the AutoPlay window
  5. Locate the desired files, and transfer them as you desire from the SD card to the PC or the other way around
  6. When done, tap "Disconnect storage from PC" on the smartphone

Transferring Files from the Internal Storage to the SD Card:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Tap "My Files" and swipe to "Local Storage"
  3. Tap "Device storage"
  4. Locate the files you wish to transfer
  5. Mark the check boxes associated with the desired file
  6. Press "Menu" and tap "Move" or "Copy"
  7. Tap "SD memory card" and navigate to where you wish to transfer the files
  8. Tap "Move here" or "Paste here"

Transferring Files Between from the SD Card to the Internal Storage:

  1. Tap "Apps" on the home screen
  2. Launch "My Files"
  3. Swipe to "Local Storage" and tap "SD card"
  4. Locate the files you wish to transfer
  5. Mark the check boxes next to the desired files
  6. Press "Menu" and tap "Move" or "Copy"
  7. Select "Device storage" and navigate to where you wish to transfer the files
  8. Tap "Move here" or "Paste here"

Changing the Default Storage Location for Apps

NOTE: Most of the pre-loaded applications store data on the phone's internal storage by default. However, you can change the settings of these apps so that they use the SD card instead.

Changing Storage Settings for the "Camera" App:

  1. Open the "Camera" application
  2. Tap "Settings" > "Storage"
  3. Select "Memory Card"

Changing Storage Settings for the "Voice Recorder":

  1. Open the apps drawer and launch the "Voice Recorder" app
  2. Go to the app's "Settings" menu
  3. Tap "Storage" and select "Memory Card"

Changing Storage Settings for the Internet Browser:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Internet"
  2. Press "Menu" and tap "Content settings"
  3. Tap "Default storage" and select "SD card"
