Backing Up App Data:

  1. Tap "Apps" from any of the home screens
  2. Tap "Settings" and swipe to "User and Backup"
  3. Tap "Backup and reset" and sign in with your Google account if necessary. (NOTE: if you need to add an account, tap "Backup account" > "Add account"
  4. If necessary, mark the check boxes associated with "Backup account" and "Backup my data"

Contact Backup

Backing Up Contacts Using a Google or Samsung Account:

  1. Launch the "Contacts" app
  2. Go to "Settings" and then tap "Merge accounts"
  3. Tap "Google" > "Samsung account"
  4. Press "OK" and the contacts will be merged

Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:

  1. Make sure a microSD card is installed on your Galaxy Ring 2
  2. From any of the home screens, tap "Apps" and go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Applications" and tap "Contacts"
  4. Tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  5. Tap "Import / Export" and select "Export to SD card"
  6. Make sure you remember the backup file's name for future use, and tap "OK"

Media File Backup

Backing Up Media Files on the Phone's Storage:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen. (Make sure an SD card is installed)
  2. Open the "My Files" application
  3. Swipe to "Local storage" and then tap "Device storage"
  4. Press "Menu" > "Select"
  5. Locate the desired files and folders. Usually, media files are found in the "DCIM", "Ringtones", "Downloads", "Music" folders etc.
  6. Mark the check boxes associated with the desired files
  7. Press "Menu" and tap "Copy"
  8. Tap "SD card" and navigate to where you wish to back up the files
  9. Once there, tap "Paste here"

Using a Windows PC to Back Up Your Media Files:

  1. Connect the Samsung Galaxy Star 2 to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down
  3. Tap "Connected as media device" and mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
  4. In the AutoPlay window on the computer, click "Open device to view files"
  5. Locate the desired media files stored on your smartphone, and copy them
  6. Navigate to where you wish to back up the files on your computer, and paste the files in the desired location
  7. Once the transfer is complete, click the "removable storage device" icon from the system tray and safely disconnect your smartphone

Backing Up Media Files via a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Assuming that Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac, then you need to skip the first 2 steps

  1. Open the Internet browser on your Mac and navigate to Kies
  2. Click "Download for Mac OS" and install Kies on your Mac
  3. With Kies installed, connect the Galaxy Star 2 to the Mac via USB
  4. From the home screen, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
  5. Tap "Media device (MTP)" to mark the check box
  6. Launch Kies on the Mac and click the "Back up / Restore" tab
  7. Click the "Backup" tab and mark the check boxes next to "Photo" and "Music". Optionally, click "Select all items"
  8. When you're ready to proceed, click "Backup"
  9. After the process is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone from the Mac, by ejecting the removable drive from the desktop
