Using a Google Account:

You can use a Google account to transfer contacts from one phone to another, by simply syncing the contacts stored on the "sender" device with the account. Then, the account can be added to the target smartphone (in this case the Samsung Galaxy Alpha) and the contacts re-synced. To do so:

  1. If necessary, sign in to your Google account on the Galaxy SIII
  2. Press "Menu" while viewing the home screen
  3. Tap "Settings" and go to "My accounts"
  4. Tap "Google" and select your "email address" or "user name"
  5. Clear and mark the check box associated with "Sync Contacts". Alternatively, tap "Sync now"
  6. Switch to the Galaxy Alpha and register the same Google account as the one used on the SGSIII
  7. Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
  8. Under "User and Backup", tap "Accounts"
  9. Press" Menu" and tap "Sync all"

Using the "Contacts" App:

Using the default "Contacts" app on both Samsung smartphones, you can easily transfer contacts from the Galaxy SIII to the Galaxy Alpha, by first exporting them in the form of a VCF file, and then transferring the file to the Alpha, as explained below:

  1. Open the "Contacts" application on the SGSIII
  2. Access the "Contacts" tab and press "Menu"
  3. Tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  4. Press "Menu" and tap "Import / Export"
  5. Tap "Export to SD card" and make sure you remember the backup file's name before tapping "OK"
  6. Open the email client and start a new email
  7. Attach the vCard file to the email
  8. Send the email to your Gmail address
  9. On the Galaxy Alpha, open the email and download the VCF file
  10. Launch the "Contacts" app and press "Menu"
  11. Tap "Import / Export" > "Import from SD card" or "import from storage"
  12. Select an account if necessary and follow any additional steps to complete the process

NOTE: After the vCard file has been created on the Galaxy SIII, you can transfer it to the Galaxy Alpha by connecting both smartphones to your computer, and manually transferring the vCard file from one phone's storage to the other. Then, import the file using the "Contacts" app, as explained above

Using "Send Anywhere":

You can also use "Send Anywhere" to transfer your contacts. This is an Android third party app that uses a peer-2-peer connection to transfer various types of files, including contacts, so there's no need for a computer in the process.

  1. From the Google Play Store, install "Send Anywhere" on both handsets
  2. Launch the app on both smartphones
  3. On the Galaxy SIII, tap "Send" > "Contacts"
  4. Select the contacts you wish to transfer and tap "Send"
  5. Finally, select the desired transfer method. You can tap "Generate QR Code" on the SGSIII, and scan the code with the Alpha's camera to commence the transfer. Otherwise, you can tap "Receive" on the Galaxy Alpha, and enter the transfer code randomly generated on the Galaxy SIII to start the transfer
