Back Up Applications:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "User and Backup", tap "Backup and reset"
  4. You need to be signed in to a Google account before backing up your apps. If necessary, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen prompts
  5. If necessary, mark the check boxes associated with "Backup my data" and "Backup account"

Contact Backup

Backing Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Launch the "Contacts" app
  2. Tap the "Settings" icon
  3. Tap "Merge accounts" and select "Google" or "Samsung account"
  4. Tap "OK" to merge the contacts on your phone with your selected account

Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:

  1. Insert your SD Card if necessary
  2. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  3. Go to "Settings" and scroll to "Applications"
  4. Tap "Contacts" > "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  5. Tap "Import / Export" > "Export to SD Card"
  6. Press "OK" to confirm
  7. Remember or write down the backup file's name for future use

Media File Backup

Using Your Smartphone (SD Card):

  1. Tap "Apps" on the home screen
  2. Launch "My Files"
  3. Scroll to "Local Storage" and tap "Device storage"
  4. Tap the "Menu" icon located in the top-right corner
  5. Tap "Select" and locate the desired files. NOTE: media files are usually found in folders such as "DCIM", "Music", "Downloads" etc.
  6. Mark the check boxes associated with the items you wish to back up
  7. Tap the "Menu" icon and select "Copy" > "SD card"
  8. Navigate to the desired backup folder if necessary, and tap "Paste here"

Backing Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down and under "Connected as" mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
  3. On the computer in the AutoPlay window, click to "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
  4. Navigate to the "Card" directory, representing the SD Card
  5. Locate the desired files and copy them
  6. Paste the files in the backup location on your computer's HDD
  7. Once the transfer is done, safely disconnect your smartphone

Backing Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 2 steps if Kies is already installed on the Mac:

  1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac and visit Kies
  2. Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on the Mac
  3. Connect your Galaxy S5 Plus to the Mac. Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap the "Media device (MTP)" check box
  4. Launch Kies on the Mac
  5. In Kies, click the "Back up / restore" tab
  6. Click the "Backup" tab if necessary
  7. Mark the check boxes associated with "Music", "Photos" and other types of media files you wish to back up
  8. Click "Backup"
  9. Once the transfer is done, eject the Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus and safely disconnect it from the Mac
