Transfer Audio Files for use as Ringtones or Notification Sounds

From a Windows PC:

  1. Connect your Galaxy V to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device (MTP)"
  3. On the computer, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer" in the AutoPlay window
  4. Open a second Windows Explorer window and locate the desired audio files
  5. Drag the files and drop them on your phone's storage, preferably in the "Notifications" and / or "Ringtones" folder
  6. Once the transfer is done, safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer

From a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 2 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac computer

  1. Use your Mac's Internet browser to visit Kies
  2. Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen prompts to install Kies on your Mac
  3. Connect the Galaxy V to your Mac via USB
  4. Swipe the "Status" bar down and mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
  5. Launch Kies and click the "Folder" icon associated with "Internal memory" or "External memory"
  6. In Kies, navigate to the folder where you wish to add the audio files
  7. On the Mac, locate the desired audio files, and drag > drop them in Kies
  8. After the transfer is done, eject the Galaxy V virtual drive from the desktop and safely disconnect your smartphone from the Mac

Adding Audio Files to the Ringtone and Notification List

Adding Audio Files to the Ringtone List:

  1. While on the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "My Device" tab
  3. Tap "Sound" > "Ringtones" > "Add"
  4. Tap "Choose music track" or "Sound picker" and select "Just once" or "Always"
  5. Select the sound files you wish to add to the ringtone list and tap "OK"

Adding Audio Files to the Notification List:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "My Files" > "All files"
  3. Locate the audio files you wish to add to the notification list
  4. Tap and hold a file you wish to transfer and select "Copy"
  5. Tap "Device storage" and open the "Notifications" folder
  6. Tap "Paste here"

Setting Custom Ringtones & Notification Sounds

Changing the Phone's Ringtone:

  1. While viewing the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "My device" tab
  3. Tap "Sound" > "Ringtones"
  4. Select the ringtone you wish to assign and tap "OK"

Changing the Notification Sound:

  1. Press "Menu" while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap the "My device" tab and select "Sound"
  4. Tap "Default notification sound" and select the audio file you wish to set
  5. Tap "OK"
