Enabling and Managing Power Saving Mode:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "System" and tap "Power saving"
  4. Tap "Power saving mode" and move the switch in the "ON" position
  5. Set the desired Power saving mode options as desired, including "restrict performance", "block background data" etc.

Enabling Ultra Power Saving Mode:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "System" and tap "Power saving"
  4. Tap "Ultra Power saving mode" and set the saving mode to "ON"
  5. Set the desired Ultra power saving mode options for the "Phone", "Messages" and "Internet" apps
  6. To add more apps, tap "+"

Disabling Ultra Power Saving Mode:

  1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen and go to "Settings"
  2. Under "System", tap "Power saving"
  3. Tap "Ultra Power saving mode" and press the "Menu" button
  4. Tap "Disable ultra power saving mode" > "OK"

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Adjusting the Timeout Duration:
  1. Access the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Under "Quick Settings", tap "Display"
  3. Go to "Brightness" and if necessary, clear the "Automatic brightness" check box
  4. Drag the brightness slider to the left and tap "OK"
  5. Tap "Screen timeout" and select a lower timeout setting, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth and GPS:

NOTE: A smartphone's connectivity options can have a big impact on your phone's battery performance, reason why it's recommended that you disable these features whenever they are not in use. To do so:

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Network Connections" and tap "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot"
  4. Tap the "Mobile Hotspot" switch and set it to "OFF"
  5. Return to the home screen and swipe the "Status" bar down
  6. Tap the icons associated with "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth" and "Location" to disable these features. NOTE: Once disabled, the icons will be removed of color

Change the Sync Settings of Applications:

NOTE: Setting your apps to sync less data or less often can improve your phone's battery performance on the long run. To adjust the sync settings of apps:

  1. Open the apps drawer and go to "Settings"
  2. Swipe to "User and Backup" and tap "Accounts"
  3. Access the "Accounts" tab
  4. Select the desired type of account and adjust the sync settings associated with it
  5. Tap your "email address" or "user name" at the top of the screen to adjust more sync settings

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and scroll to "Network Connections"
  3. Tap "Data usage" and press "Menu"
  4. Mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: Some third party applications can affect your phone's battery life even when not in use, assuming of course that these apps run processes or services in the background. As such, it's recommended that you disable or uninstall 3rd party apps you don't (or rarely) use.

  1. Access the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Swipe to "Applications" and tap "Application manager"
  3. Access the "Downloaded" tab
  4. Select the desired application
  5. Tap "Disable"
  6. To completely remove the app, tap "Uninstall"

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Network Connections"
  4. Tap "More networks" > "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
  5. Tap "GSM only" to restrict your phone's connectivity to 2G only
  6. To switch back to 4G/LTE, select either "LTE / WCDMA / GSM (auto connect)" or "WCDMA / GSM (auto connect)"

Keeping Your Smartphone Updated:

NOTE: Smartphone manufacturers sometime release new software updates that can improve battery life, or fix potential battery life issues. As such, you should keep your smartphone up to date. To check for updates:

  1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
  2. Access the "Settings" menu
  3. Swipe to "System" and tap "About device"
  4. Tap "Software update"
  5. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it on your phone
