Backing Up Applications:
- While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Go to "Settings"
- Swipe to "User and Backup" and tap "Backup and reset"
- Before backing up your apps, you need to be signed in with a Google account. If necessary, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup
- If necessary, mark the check boxes next to "Backup account" and "Backup my data"
Contact Backup
Backing Up Contacts on a Google or Samsung Account:
- Open the "Contacts" application
- Tap "Settings"
- Tap "Merge accounts"
- Select either "Google" or "Samsung account"
- Tap "OK" to merge the contacts with the selected account
Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:
- Make sure the SD card is installed on your phone
- From the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Go to "Settings"
- Scroll to "Applications"
- Tap "Contacts" > "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Tap "Import / Export" > "Export to SD card"
- Tap "OK" to confirm
- Make sure you remember the backup file's name for finding it easier when restoring contacts
Media File Backup
Using Your Smartphone's SD Card:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch the "My Files" application
- Swipe to "Local Storage" and tap "Device storage"
- Tap 'Menu" in the top-right corner
- Tap "Select" and locate the files you wish to back up. NOTE: Media files are usually located in folders like "DCIM", "Music", "Downloads" etc.
- Mark the check boxes associated with the items you want to back up
- Press "Menu" and tap "Copy" > "SD card"
- Navigate to the desired backup folder and tap "Paste here"
Backing Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 to your computer via USB
- Swipe the "Status" bar down
- Under "Connected as", mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
- In the AutoPlay window, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
- Navigate to the "Card" directory
- Locate the files you wish to back up, select and copy them
- Paste the files in the desired backup location on your computer's hard drive
- After the transfer is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer
Backing Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: You need to skip the first 3 steps if Kies is already installed on your Mac computer
- Launch the Internet browser on your Mac
- Visit Kies and click "Download for Mac OS"
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install Kies on the Mac
- Use the USB cable to connect the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 to your Mac
- Swipe the "notification" bar down and tap "Media Device (MTP)"
- Open Kies on the Mac and click the "Back up / restore" tab
- Click the "Backup" tab if necessary, and mark the check boxes associated with "Music", "Photos" and other types of media files
- Click "Backup"
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone's storage from the desktop screen and safely disconnect the Mega 2 from the Mac
