Back Up App Data:

  1. Open “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Tap “Backup and reset” under “User and Backup”
  4. If necessary, tap “Backup account” > “Add account” and sign in with your Google account
  5. Enable “Backup account “and “Backup my data”

Back Up Contacts Using a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Open “Contacts”
  2. Tap “More” > “Settings”
  3. Tap “Move device contacts to”, and if necessary, select a Google or Samsung account
  4. Return to the home screen and go to “Settings”
  5. Tap “Accounts” and select the account you want to sync contacts with
  6. Tap “More” > “Sync now”

Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Galaxy J5 to your computer via USB
  2. Drag the “Status” bar down and ensure “Media device (MTP)” is enabled
  3. On the computer, open an Explorer window and locate the media files on your phone
  4. Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer
  5. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect the device

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: In case Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac, skip the first 3 steps.

  1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Head down to Kies Support
  3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” to download and install Kies
  4. Connect the Galaxy J5 to your Mac via USB
  5. Swipe the “notification” bar down and make sure the phone is connected as a “Media device (MTP)”
  6. Open Kies on the Mac and inside Kies, click “Back up / restore”
  7. Access the “Backup” tab
  8. Tick the boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos” and other types of media files you want to back up
  9. Click “Backup”
  10. Once the process is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive to the “trash can” and safely disconnect the device
