NOTE: To learn how you can back up data on the Samsung Galaxy J3, visit this thread.
Restore Contacts from a Samsung / Google Account:
- Sign in with the Google or Samsung account used for the backup
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to User and Backup and tap Accounts
- Select Google or Samsung
- Tap your email address or user name at the top of the screen
- Turn on Sync Contacts, then tap Menu > Sync now
Restore Contacts from the SD Card:
- Make sure the SD card containing the contacts backup
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Applications > Contacts
- Tap Import / Export contacts > Import
- Tap SD card and choose to restore (import) the contacts on your Google account or Device storage
Restore Media Files
From an SD Card:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Launch My Files
- Scroll to Local storage and tap SD card
- Tap More > Edit
- Mark the check box associated with the media files you want to restore
- Tap More > Move
- Select Device storage
- If necessary, navigate to the desired target folder or tap Create Folder
- When ready, tap Move here
From a Windows PC:
- Connect the Galaxy J3 to your PC via USB
- Swipe the Status bar down and make sure the phone is connected as a Media device (MTP)
- Launch an Explorer window on the PC ad navigate to the location of your media file backups
- Copy the files, and transfer them back on your phone storage (preferably in the Media directory)
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB connector
From a Mac Computer:
- Establish a USB connection between the Galaxy J3 and Mac
- Make sure the phone is connected as a Media device (MTP) from the notification area
- On the Mac, launch Kies
- Inside Kies, click the Back up / restore tab
- Click the Restore tab and place a check box next to Music, Photo and other media categories you want to restore (Optionally, enable Select all files)
- Click Restore and follow any additional on-screen prompts if required
- Once the transfer is done, drag the phones virtual drive into the Trash can, and disconnect the device from the USB
