Back Up Application Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “User and Backup” and tap “Backup and reset”
  4. Sign in with your Google account, if necessary. Tap “Backup account” > “Add account”
  5. If needed, tap to enable “Backup my data” and “Backup account”

Back Up Contacts on the SD Card:

  1. Ensure that the SD card is installed
  2. Open the apps drawer
  3. Launch “Settings”
  4. Tap “Contacts” under “Applications”
  5. If necessary, tap “Contacts to display” > “All contacts”
  6. Tap “Import / Export” > “Export to SD card”
  7. Tap “OK”

Back Up Contacts on a Google or Samsung Account:

  1. On the home screen, tap “Contacts”
  2. Tap “Menu” > “Merge accounts”
  3. Select “Google” or “Samsung account”
  4. Tap “OK” and the contacts on your phone will be synced with the selected account

Back Up Media Files

On the SD Card:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Launch “My Files”
  3. Scroll to “Local storage” and tap “Device storage”
  4. Tap “Menu” > “Select”
  5. Locate the desired media items and select their check boxes
  6. Tap “Menu” > “Copy” > “SD card"
  7. Navigate to the desired backup folder and tap “Paste here”

On a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Galaxy A7 to your PC via USB
  2. Drag the “Status” bar down and connect the phone as a “Media device (MTP)”
  3. Launch an Explorer window on the computer
  4. Navigate to the phone storage and locate the desired media files
  5. Copy the files and transfer them in the backup location on your computer
  6. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB

On a Mac Computer:

NOTE: If Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac, skip the first 3 steps.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit Kies Support
  3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” and install Kies on your computer
  4. Establish a USB connection between the Galaxy A7 and computer
  5. Open Kies on the Mac and click the “Back up / restore” tab
  6. Click “Backup”
  7. Check the boxes next to “Music”, “Photos”, and other types of media files you want to back up
  8. Click “Backup” and wait for the process to complete
  9. Once done, drag the phone’s virtual drive into the “Trash can”, and safely disconnect the device from the USB
