Back Up App Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
  4. To back up account data, Wi-Fi passwords, and settings to your Google account, enable “Back up my data”
  5. Turn on “Automatic restore” to allow your account to restore data automatically on the next log in

Back Up Contacts on an Account:

  1. Access the phone’s “Settings” menu
  2. Tap “Accounts”
  3. Select an account type and the account you want to sync contacts with
  4. Make sure “Contacts” is selected
  5. Tap “More” > “Sync now”

Back Up Contacts on the SD Card:

  1. From the “Settings” menu, scroll to “Device”
  2. Tap “Applications” > “Contacts”
  3. Tap “Import / Export contacts” > “Export"
  4. Select “SD card” and make sure you remember the file name for future use
  5. Tap “OK” to confirm

Back Up Media Files

Using the Phone:

  1. Ensure the SD card is installed on your handset
  2. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  3. Open “My Files”
  4. Under “Local storage” tap “Device storage”
  5. Tap “More” > “Edit”
  6. Locate the media files / folders you want to back up and tick the boxes next to them
  7. Tap “More” > “Copy” > “SD card”
  8. Navigate to the desired folder or tap “Create folder”
  9. Tap “Paste here”

On a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Galaxy J1 to your computer via USB
  2. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down
  3. Make sure “Media device (MTP)” is turned on
  4. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
  5. Locate the media files on your phone and copy them
  6. Transfer the media files on the computer
  7. When the transfer is done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect the device from the USB

On a Mac Computer:

NOTE: In case Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac, skip the first 3 steps below.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on your Mac
  2. Head down to Kies Support
  3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” and install Kies on your Mac
  4. With Kies installed, connect the Galaxy J1 to your Mac via USB
  5. Drag the “Status” bar down and enable “Media device (MTP)” if necessary
  6. Open Kieso n the Mac and go to the “Back up / restore” tab
  7. Access the “Backup” tab and select “Music”, “Photos”, and other types of media files you want to back up
  8. Click “Backup” to start the process
  9. Once done, drag the phone’s virtual drive into the “Trash can” to eject it, and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
