Using a Google Account:

NOTE: For this method, you can sync the contacts on your Galaxy SIII with your Google account. Then, you can register the same account on the Galaxy J2, and sync contacts with the device.

  1. On the Galaxy SIII, sign in with the desired Google account, if necessary
  2. Open the phone’s “Settings” menu
  3. Go to “My Accounts” and select “Google
  4. Tap your “user name” or “email address
  5. Make sure “Sync Contacts” is enabled
  6. Tap “Sync Now
  7. Switch to the Galaxy J2 and register the same Google account
  8. Access the “Settings” menu and tap “User and Backup
  9. Tap “Accounts” > “Menu” > “Sync all

Using the “Contacts” App:

NOTE: Using the “Contacts” app on the Galaxy SIII, you can back up and export your contacts in vCard format. Then, you can transfer the file to the Galaxy J2 and import it using the similar “Contacts” app on the newer phone.

  1. Open “Contacts” on the Galaxy SIII
  2. Access the “Contacts” tab
  3. Tap “Menu” if necessary
  4. Tap “Contacts to display” > “All contacts
  5. Tap “Menu” > “Import / Export
  6. Select to “Export to SD card
  7. Once the file has been exported, open the email client on the SIII, and compose an email containing the vCard backup file as an attachment
  8. Send the email to your Gmail address
  9. Switch to the Galaxy J2 and open the email
  10. Download the vCard attachment and import it to your phonebook using “Contacts

NOTE: Once the vCard file is created on the Galaxy SIII, you can transfer it to the Galaxy J2 by connecting both devices to your computer and transferring the file from the SIII’s SD card to the J2’s storage. Then, use the “Contacts” app to import it, same as above.

Using “Send Anywhere”:

NOTE: You can also use third party apps to transfer your contacts. Send Anywhere is an app that uses a peer-to-peer connection to transfer contacts and other file types without needing a computer. To use this method:

  1. Open the Google Play Store and install “Send Anywhere” on both Samsung smartphones
  2. Launch Send Anywhere on both smartphones
  3. On the Galaxy SIII, tap “Send” > “Contacts
  4. Select the desired contacts and tap “Send” again
  5. Lastly, choose a transfer method, such as “Generate QR Code” on the SGSIII, or “Receive” on the Galaxy J2
