Back Up Application Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal
  4. Tap “Backup & reset
  5. Enable “Back up my data” to back up Wi-Fi passwords, settings, and app / account data to your Google account
  6. Enable “Automatic restore

NOTE: App data, Wi-Fi data, and settings will be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your Google account on your Galaxy S&.

Back Up Contacts on a Google / Samsung Account:

  1. Open “Contacts
  2. Tap “More” > “Settings
  3. Tap “Move device contacts to” in order to save any contacts that aren’t already saved to your Google or Samsung account
  4. Return to the “Settings” menu
  5. Tap “Accounts
  6. Select the desired account and tap “More
  7. Tap “Sync now

NOTE: Contacts backed up using this method will be automatically restored upon the next time you sign in with your Google account.

Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. On the computer, open the Internet explorer
  2. Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
  3. Click to get “Samsung Smart Switch for PC” and install the app on your computer
  4. Next, connect the Galaxy S7 to your computer via USB
  5. If necessary, swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen, tap “Connected as a media device” and enable “Media device (MTP)
  6. If necessary, allow the computer to install any required drivers for the phone
  7. When ready, open “Smart Switch” on the PC
  8. Open the File Explorer on the computer
  9. Navigate to the desired files on your phone
  10. Drag & drop the files in the desired location on the computer
  11. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and disconnect it from the USB cord

Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:

  1. Follow the first 7 steps above and then:
  2. Open the File Explorer on the PC and navigate to the “Card” or “Phone” directory on your phone
  3. Open a second File Explorer window and locate the media files backed up on your PC
  4. Drag the files from the computer and drop them on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” folder
  5. Once done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord

Back Up Media Files on a Mac:

  1. Open the Internet explorer on the Mac
  2. Visit Kies Support
  3. Click to get “Kies 3 for Mac
  4. Install the app on the Mac
  5. Once done, connect the Galaxy S7 to your Mac via USB
  6. If necessary, swipe the “Status” bar down and enable “Media device
  7. Launch Kies and click the “Back up / restore” tab
  8. Access the “Backup” tab
  9. Mark the check boxes associated with “Music”, “Photo”, or other types of media files you wish to back up
  10. Click “Backup
  11. Once the process is done, eject the phone storage by dragging its virtual drive from the desktop into the “trash can

Restore Media Files from a Mac:

  1. Follow the first 7 steps above
  2. Next, click the “Restore” tab
  3. Tick the check boxes next to “Music”, “Photos” or other types of media files you want to restore
  4. Click “Restore” and, if necessary, follow any additional on-screen steps that may be required
  5. After the files have been restored, drag the phone’s storage from the desktop into the “trash can” to eject it, and safely disconnect the device form the USB cord
