Back Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:
- Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Open “Contacts”
- Tap “More” > “Settings”
- If you wish to save phone contacts to your Samsung or Google account before the sync, tap “move device contacts to”
- Return to “Settings” and tap “Accounts”
- Select an account
- Tap “More” > “Sync now”
NOTE: Contacts backed up on a Samsung or Google account will be automatically restored the next time you sign in with the respective account.
Back Up App Data:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
- Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords to your account
- Turn on “Automatic Restore” to allow app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and settings to be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your backup account
Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Open the Internet browser on the PC
- Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
- Click “Samsung Smart Switch for PC”
- Install the app on your PC and connect the Samsung device to the computer
- At the pop-up, enable “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)” on the phone, otherwise enable the option from the “Notification” area
- Launch “Smart Switch” on the computer
- Open the File Explorer and locate the media files on your phone
- Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the PC
- Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray
- You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB
Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
- Follow the first 6 steps above
- Open the File Explorer on the PC and locate the media file backups
- Copy the files and transfer them in the “Media” directory on the phone
- Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect it from the USB cord
Back Up Media Files on a Mac:
- Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
- Visit Kies Support and click “Kies 3 for Mac”
- Install Kies on the Mac and connect the Samsung phone via USB
- At the prompt, enable “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)”, or enable the option from the “Notification” area
- Launch Kies on the Mac and access the “Back up / restore” tab
- Click the “Backup” tab and select “Photo”, “Music”, and other media file types you want to back up
- Click “Backup”
- Once the backup is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it in the “Trash can” to eject
- You can safely disconnect the phone from the USB
Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:
- Follow the first 4 steps above
- Open Kies on the Mac and go to “Back up / restore”
- Click “Restore” and enable “Photos”, “Music”, and any other types of media files you want to restore
- Click “Restore” and, if necessary, follow any additional pop-ups to complete the process
- Once the process is complete, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop into the “trash can”
- You can now safely disconnect the handset from the USB
