Back Up App Data:
- Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Open “Settings” and scroll to “Personal”
- Tap “Backup & reset”
- To back up Wi-Fi passwords, settings, and app data to your account, enable “Back up my data”
- Enable “Automatic Restore” to allow app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and settings to be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your Google backup account
Back Up Contacts Using a Google or Samsung Account:
- Open “Contacts”
- Tap “More” and launch “Settings”
- To save any contacts that have yet to be saved on a Samsung or Google account, tap “Move device contacts to”
- Return to “Settings” and access “Accounts”
- Select an account
- Tap “More” > “Sync now”
NOTE: Contacts backed up using the method above will be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your Google / Samsung backup account
Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:
- Open the Internet browser on your computer
- Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
- Click “Samsung Smart Switch for PC” and install the app on the computer
- Next, connect the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active to your PC and allow any USB drivers to be installed if necessary
- At the prompt, enable “Media device (MTP)”, otherwise enable the option from the notification area
- Open the File Explorer on the PC and locate the desired media files on your phone
- Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
- Follow the first 5 steps above
- Open the File Explorer and locate the media file backups on the computer
- Copy the files and transfer them on the smartphone storage, preferably in the “Media” folder
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage and disconnect the phone from the USB cord
Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.
- Open the Internet browser on the Mac
- Visit Kies Support
- Click “Kies 3 for Mac” to download and install Kies
- Connect the Samsung device to your Mac via USB
- When prompted, enable “Media device (MTP)”, otherwise enable the option from the “notification” area
- Launch Kies on the Mac and go to the “Back up / restore” tab
- Click the “Backup” tab and check the boxes associated with “Music”, “Photo”, and other media file types you want to back up
- Click “Backup” and once the backup is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it into the “trash can” to eject
- You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
Restore Media Files from a Mac:
- Follow the first 6 steps above
- Click the “Restore” tab inside Kies
- Check the boxes next to “Music”, “Photos”, and / or other types of media files you want to restore
- Click “Restore” and, if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts
- After the restore is complete, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it into the “Trash can” to eject it
- Safely disconnect the phone from the USB
