Back Up App Data:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Personal
  3. Tap “Backup & reset
  4. To back up Wi-Fi passwords, settings, and app data to your account, enable “Back up my data
  5. Enable “Automatic Restore” to allow app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and settings to be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your Google backup account

Back Up Contacts Using a Google or Samsung Account:

  1. Open “Contacts
  2. Tap “More” and launch “Settings
  3. To save any contacts that have yet to be saved on a Samsung or Google account, tap “Move device contacts to
  4. Return to “Settings” and access “Accounts
  5. Select an account
  6. Tap “More” > “Sync now

NOTE: Contacts backed up using the method above will be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your Google / Samsung backup account

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Open the Internet browser on your computer
  2. Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
  3. Click “Samsung Smart Switch for PC” and install the app on the computer
  4. Next, connect the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active to your PC and allow any USB drivers to be installed if necessary
  5. At the prompt, enable “Media device (MTP)”, otherwise enable the option from the notification area
  6. Open the File Explorer on the PC and locate the desired media files on your phone
  7. Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer
  8. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord

Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:

  1. Follow the first 5 steps above
  2. Open the File Explorer and locate the media file backups on the computer
  3. Copy the files and transfer them on the smartphone storage, preferably in the “Media” folder
  4. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage and disconnect the phone from the USB cord

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.

  1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit Kies Support
  3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” to download and install Kies
  4. Connect the Samsung device to your Mac via USB
  5. When prompted, enable “Media device (MTP)”, otherwise enable the option from the “notification” area
  6. Launch Kies on the Mac and go to the “Back up / restore” tab
  7. Click the “Backup” tab and check the boxes associated with “Music”, “Photo”, and other media file types you want to back up
  8. Click “Backup” and once the backup is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it into the “trash can” to eject
  9. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord

Restore Media Files from a Mac:

  1. Follow the first 6 steps above
  2. Click the “Restore” tab inside Kies
  3. Check the boxes next to “Music”, “Photos”, and / or other types of media files you want to restore
  4. Click “Restore” and, if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts
  5. After the restore is complete, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it into the “Trash can” to eject it
  6. Safely disconnect the phone from the USB
