Restore Contacts from a Google or Samsung Account:
- Sign in (on the phone) with the Samsung / Google account used for the initial backup
- Go to the phone’s “Settings” menu
- Tap “Accounts” under “User and Backup”
- Select “Samsung” or “Google”, depending on the type of account you’ve used
- Tap your “user name” or “email address” at the top
- Turn on “Sync Contacts”, then tap “Menu” > “Sync now”
Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Samsung Galaxy J Max to your computer via USB
- When prompted, turn on “Media device (MTP)”, or enable the option from the “notification” area
- Open the File Explorer on the computer and navigate to the media files backed up on your computer
- Copy the files and transfer them on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” directory, or the folder(s) the files originate from
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray
- Safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:
- Connect the Samsung Galaxy J Max to your Mac via USB
- Enable “Media device (MTP)” at the prompt, or from the “Notification” area
- Open “Kies” on the Mac and click the “Back up / restore” tab
- Click the “Restore” tab
- Tick the check boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos”, and other media file types you want to restore
- Click “Restore” and, if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process
- Once done, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it inside the “Trash can” to eject
- You can now safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
