Back Up App Data:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Backup & reset
- To back up app data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords to your Google account, turn on Back up my data
- To allow app data to be restored automatically upon reinstallation, turn on Automatic restore
Back Up Contacts on a Google Account:
- Launch Settings
- Tap Accounts
- Select Google and a Google account
- Make sure Contacts is selected, then tap More > Sync now
Back Up Contacts to SD Card / Storage:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Applications
- Tap Contacts
- Select to Import / Export contacts
- Tap Export and select Storage or SD card
- Make sure you remember the file name for future use and tap OK to confirm
Back Up Media Files on the SD Card:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch My Files
- Tap Device storage under Local storage
- Tap More > Edit
- Locate the media files you want to back up and tick the boxes associated with them
- Tap More > Copy
- Select SD card
- Tap Create folder or navigate to the desired backup location
- Tap Paste here
Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
- Turn on File Transfer (MTP) / Media device (MTP) at the prompt or from the Notification area
- Launch the File Explorer on the computer and use it to locate the media files on the phone
- Copy the files you want to back up and transfer them in the desired location on the computer
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: If Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac, skip the first 3 steps.
- Open the Internet browser on the Mac
- Visit Kies Support
- Click Kies 3 for Mac and follow the on-screen steps to install Kies
- Connect the Samsung phone to your Mac via USB
- Enable File Transfer (MTP) / Media device (MTP) at the prompt or from the Notification area
- Launch Kies on the Mac and click the Back up / restore tab
- Go to the Backup tab and select Photos, Music and other types of media files you want to back up
- Click Backup and wait for the process to complete
- Once done, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the Trash can
- You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
