Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache and / or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal information stored within the app will be deleted. This includes save files, user profiles, credit card and login details, settings etc. To avoid losing personal data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Applications” and tap “Application manager”
  4. Access “All” or “Downloaded”
  5. Select the desired app and tap “Clear cache”
  6. If necessary, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (Read WARNING above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone doesn’t work as intended or runs out of storage inexplicably and you are considering factory resetting it, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have similar results to a factory reset without losing any personal data on the device’s internal storage. To clear the cache partition:

  1. Ensure the phone is turned off
  2. Then, press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. At the “Samsung” / “Android” logo, release the buttons and wait for access to the “Android System Recovery” menu
  4. In Recovery, press “Volume Down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “wipe cache partition”
  5. Press “Power” to select the option
  6. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  7. Press “Power” to confirm
  8. After the cache is cleared “Reboot system now” should be highlighted. Press “Power” to confirm and restart your device

Reboot to Safe Mode to Uninstall an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app within Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, all third party apps are disabled. To access Safe Mode:

  1. First, power off your phone if necessary
  2. Next, press and hold “Power”
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Once the phone finishes restarting, release “Volume down” (NOTE: a Safe Mode label should be shown in the lower-left corner of the home screen)
  5. Next, open the apps drawer and launch “Settings”
  6. Go to “Applications”
  7. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” two times
  8. To exit safe mode, press and hold “Power” and tap “Restart”
