    Hello people,

Well, Iīm almost reaching the end of my increadible adventure to activate this phone here in Brazil with my local CDMA carrier, VIVO.

Through my journey, Iīve grabbed lots and lots of secret codes and interesting info for my phone which might be helpful to other people, so here they are.

INFO about how getting the MSL Code by your own can be found here:
    http://webpages.charter.net/cellcodes/bitpim.html

If you donīt wanna buy a data cable and prefers that someone else does it for your, I know a guy that charges US$ 15 per MSL and gets it directly from Sprint. If youīre interested, contact me any time @ [email protected]

    Hope this thread helps

    ##2539 + OK
It will ask for you A-Key. I donīt know what you can do inside this menu since I donīt know a damn about my A-Key, probably nothing interesting in there. I said probably.

    ##889 +OK - TTY Settings
This code lets you enable/disable TTY mode on your phone.

    MENU + 8 + 1+ 0 Field Serv: 040793

    DEBUG MENU:

    1. Debug Screen: Pumps a screen which stays in Background and pops up again sometimes unless you turn it off by reselecting it.
    2. Test Calls: Pops up a window asking to choose between 8K Markov, 13K Markov, 8K Loopback, 13k Loopback and Simple TDSO. Obviously, I have no Idea of what all those mean.
    3. CDMA Only: It should force the phone to work at CDMA mode only 800Mhz, but it doesnīt. Brings up several error messages at random, like "All Data Erased" or "No Phonebook Entries".
    4. VOICE SO: Lets you choose between "Default", "8K", "EVRC" or "13K".
    5. Errors: Shows the errors log.
    6. Clr Errors: Clears the errors log.
    7. Data Scrn: No idea
    8. Toggle QNC: No idea either.
    9. Java: "ERROR: No files. Please Enter END" huh?
    10. RC Data (Will reboot the phone): lets you choose between the following RC: F_RC4 R_RC3, F_RC5 R_RC4, F_RC1 R_RC1, F_RC2 R_RC2, F_RC3 R_RC3. I have no idea of what these mean.

    47*869#1235 TEST MODE:

Warning: this can make a huge mess in your phone. You can dig around some codes for test mode, but I do not recommend that you do it.

All right folks, this is all information Iīve grabbed about this phone.

    What Iīm desperately looking for:

    1. How do I FORCE it to work at 800Mhz CDMA instead of 1900Mhz PCS? My problem is that here in Brazil we have two different carriers (VIVO and Vesper), each one operating in one of these frequencies. My phone seems to be hooked at 1900Mhz VESPER and my carrier VIVO operates @ 800 Mhz CDMA. Any ideas would be helpful. P.S: Test Mode 005 returns "NO FIND CMD".

    2. Is it possible to grab the pictures taken by the phone with BitPim and a USB Data Cable? Does this cable need to be special or something? Itīs not easy to find these cables around Brazil, but Iīve seen one by Samsung here that fits perfectly in the "hole" under the phone. Will it work just because it fits?

    3. Any ways of manually editing the PRL file or the phone firmware in order to get it working in Brazil as a local phone instead of Sprint roaming? Any recommended software to do it?

Oh, and by the way, the phone is already working, but on Analogic Mode

Well, thatīs it! Thanks a lot and good luck!

    Best Regards,
    VB

    The answers, finally

Ok, then! Mission accomplished folks. Here we go:

First of all, if you really wanna your A-Key let me warn you that this code wonīt make things any easier (at least not for us, SPH-A620 owners). Actually, when we type the A-Key correctly the phone just says "A-Key succesfully stored" "Service Done" and then restarts. I think that just for fun you can retrieve your A-Key to make you look cool with the chicks, lol

Start by downloading the A-Key Calcultar software http://jupiter.drw.net/mercedes/software/akeycalc.zip

    Unzip and install it.

Punch ##786 + OK and then get your ESN number.

Run Akey Calculator and mark HEX. Then, type your ESN and the program will generate your A-Key - in my case it was a 6 digit code.

Type ##2539 + OK and then type your A-Key Code. Once youīre done the phone will say "A-Key succesfully stored. Service Done" and then will restart.

Thanks to trethacker from Howard Forums who gave me this nice and clean step-by-step.

    Ok, now the cool stuff:

Yeah, it is possible to grab the pictures taken by the phone with BitPim and the USB Data Cable. The cable doesnīt need to be special, any USB cable should work. You have to be very careful with the drivers: FutureDial USB driver seems to be the best option.

Another real valuable piece of information: DONīT TRY TO WRITE ANYTHING INSIDE YOUR PHONE USING BITPIM. I tryed to overwrite the PRL file from my phone this way.. No good. Bad idea. Froze the phone and really made me believe I had ****ed my phone. I was able, though, to make a joke with the JAMDat bowling .JAD file. Just changed the default value line "DEMO=TRUE" to "DEMO=FALSE" and I got the full version right on.

Okay then, now comes the best part:

How to set a Sprint phone to work with other carriers as a Home Phone: No roaming at all!

First of all, Iīd like to thank Eleazar Canale, from Mexico, who gave me some real valuable information and made this miracle possible. Whenever your are, Eleazar, thanks a lot dud, really!

Ok, letīs take a look at the proceedments:

You gotta know which CDMA channels your carrier works with. If you donīt know them, try taking a look at other phones that belong to the carrier you want to join. Itīs a five digit number, something like 20599, 10339 etc..

In my case this wasnīt difficult. Since my phone was working fine as Digital Roam in areas where there was no Vesper Signal at all, I just went down the subway and waited for the phone to pick up VIVOīs signal (no Vesper coverage down there). After that, just went into Debug Screen by typing Menu + 8 + 1 + 0 and then 040793 as the Field Serv Code, option 1

The Debug Screen poped up showing the following info:

    S00067 SIO2 CH0283.

All I did was mixing the "2" from SIO with the 0283 number in order to get the 5 digit channel: 20283

Now, itīs time to get into test mode 47*869#1235, punch 022 and have access to the option TEST_S:00000. Just replace the 5 zeros by the channel number, press OK and then type 002. The phone will reboot.

Once it restarts, it will magically say "Entering Sprint Service Area" and youīre done. No more roaming at all!

Good Luck and thanks for all

    Best Regards,
    VB

Great work! In your travels did you run across a service manual? I am looking for the pin out information for the bottom hands free connector.
    Thanks

does that last section mean that I will be able to avoid horrible roaming charges? I am going away for a couple days, and my roaming is .75 CENTS A MIN. I never use roaming and i dont want to pay out the ass just because I am leaving for one weekend. Can anyone explain how to do this?

    Great job VB!!

I got this working in Nashville, TN using the same code you use. Now, what's the code to get it back to Sprint? Where might I find that?

    Thanks!!

Ok then, I'm happy to know that it worked for you too

If you wanna bring your phone back to Sprint, just go into test mode and replace the five zeros on TEST_S: item. This will make your phone read the PRL file instead of forcing the phone to work with that specific CDMA channel you specified on Test Mode

    LaughingJedi:

Note that these proceedments are inteded only for carrying Sprint phones into other carriers or use as many carriers as you want with your phone, one carrier at a time (inclduing Sprint)

This tip doesn't apply to get rid of "Roaming Taxes" unless you create a new account with the carrier whose channel you're forcing your phone to work with...

    Best Regards,
    VB

VitorBart - When I'm at my house, I can only pick up Verizon, so since I have unlimited roaming, I change over to Verizon, then when I go to work, I change back to Sprint - since only Sprint will pick up there. It's working great!!

    Best Regards,
    VB
