OK ... I consider myself above average on the computer skillz level ... BUT I can't figure out what format to make Animated Screen Savers for this Samsung VGA1000 because it can't display GIFs.

I've tried uploading both animated and stationary GIFs and they won't work.

So what format are the Animated Screen Savers on this phone? It comes with some "National Geographic" Eagle flapping it's wings from the factory so I know it can do it.

Please help me on this one ... thanx in advance.

Kyle, just curious, but are you downloading stuff into your phone by cable or OTA?

    Thanks!

I'm using a webhost to transfer my images ... so no cable ... I'm not sure what OTA stands for.

I'm uploading images and via http://myphonefiles.com and then sending them to my phone for download. My phone then downloads the image and says it can't display it, but you can go buy a plug-in/program to view GIFs.

I need to figure out what format the preloaded animated screensavers are cause the phone comes preloaded with software to handle whatever file type that is, apparently.

I´m pasting here what I had previously typed @ cellphonehacks.com from the original Thread SPH-A620/VGA1000 TaskForce. We were looking for a way to crack the AmsRegistry file so that we could upload whatever we wanted into our phones with data-cable, no need for Vision at all. I´m glad to say that we did it!

    Hope it helps.

After googling around for a couple of hours, I´ve come accross this method of creating your own animated screensaver. A lot of people had already mailed me before regarding this so I decided to post it here.

    What you´ll need

    • 1. An animated GIF or a small movie (MPEG or AVI) to set as the Screen Saver. There are tons of animated GIFs around the Web so pick whatever you want. I´d really love to find more of those pretty Screen Savers from National Geographic but I can´t seem to find them anywhere.

      2. ULead GIF Animator which can be downloaded from Ulead.com site.

      3. Qualcomm CMX Studio. This software was developed by Qualcomm and it´s not intended for individual use. It means that we were not supposed to abe able to download it, but what the hell. Get it as quick as you can before they find out.

    Step-by-Step Guide

After installing both softwares you´ll need to choose which GIF/movie you want to set as the Screen Saver. In my case, I´ll choose this "Matrix" GIF to make things easier:

Run Ulead Gif Animator 5 and open the GIF file. Now, go to File > Save As.. and choose option Image Frames. This dialog box will appear asking for a name to save the files. Choose one, suppose Matrix and click Save. After that, you´ll see a lot of JPG files which represent each frame from the animation. That´s all we need from Ulead Gif Animator.

Now, load the JPGs you´ve just created with any Imaging Software you like and resize all the JPGs frames to 140 X 105.

Ok then, now comes the tough part. Run CMX Studio and if it asks you to choose the CMX version, choose the 2.1x. I´ve tryed all the other versions with my phone and none of them seems to work, ARGH.

At the Resources window, choose option Image. Right click on an empty space and choose Insert Image. Browse to the folder you had saved the JPGs before and insert all the JPGs, one-by-one untill you place all the frames on the window.

Once it´s done, click on the first image and drag it to the time line located at the bottom of the screen. This will set the first JPG as the first frame of your animation.

Repeat the process untill all the frames are set on the time line:

If you wanna your animated screensaver to have the loop-back feature, on the Resources window choose the guide Loops, click over the Infinite Loop option and drag´n drop it over the time line. Then, expand it using the mouse from the beginning untill the end of the frames.

To check if you did all right, go to Simulator and choose Start. The animation should run on a Preview window.

Ok then, so this is it. Now, go to File and choose Export your CMX file to any folder you want. CMX Studio will save it with a PMD extension which means you´ll have to rename it to .CMX or phaZed GCD Creator won´t be able to read it and won´t be able to genearte a GCD file for it.

After the GCD is created, rename it to cntsx.gcd and rename the CMX file to cntsx Upload them to your phone and that´s it.

    Regards,
    VB
