Transfering data btwn A670 & cpu

I am pretty new to using the latest technology in cell phones. I had a samsung a310 before and just got the samsung a670. I know there is a lot you can do with this phone but I don't know how. I know you can connect it to your computer by USB. I have seen the cables on ebay for about 10 bucks. My question is, if I buy a cable from ebay with drivers how do you go about transfering pictures, phonebook, ring tones, etc. to and from the phone? Is there software required to do this or not. I noticed you can do an FTP to the phone but that doesn't help me a whole lot? I saw somthing from data point? on ebay, its a cable and software but i don't want to spend 40 bucks, because I dont know how much I will use it. Is a cable and driver all I need? If I need software is there anywhere I can get it free and whats it called. Any help understanding this would be great.

One more question:
Is this phone capable of connecting to a laptop and allowing the laptop to dial out to the internet through the phone?

Is there anyone who owns an a670 that has done this or can it not be done? Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on this? Does anyone use the USB to download pictures to their computer? That is essentially what I would be using the cable for. Thanks in advance!

Ok, I got a little further last night. I changed the port to com4 and that at least reconized the phone. It said it was attempting to connect to the phone and did that for a min. then disapeared at which point I thought it had synced. Then it started like it was gonna sync again and kind of repeated it self time after time. No errors this time however. I called samsung and the guy on the phone tells me that you dont have the features with this fone to use this software. I was like WTF, why does samsung give you the software for that model phone if it doesn't work! I dont know if the guy just didn't want to deal with me or what, but I think I'm gonna call back again tonight and see what they say! If anyone has figured this out, please let me know. Thanks!

Get the software for the 650. I work for Verizon and for some weird reason the cable and software we sell doesnt even list the 670 on it. I bought it anyway to try it out cause we were all wondering and it works with it. I had a few problems at first getting the computer to read the phone, it kept saying that no phone was found, but i played with it a little and got it to work. I think using modem helper was what ended up getting it straight. You cant actually use the phone as a "modem" because you still need to have an ISP. If you dont have that configured correctly you can forget it. God...there is so much that could be the problem when I think about it, and maybe I am not helping but mine is on com4 and also on com6. Now, I have NO IDEA why its on both, but hell, it works. shoot me an email and i might be able to send you something that would help....

If you set it up that way wont that just get the phone to work as a modem, not work for transfering pictures and media?

I have gotten rid of samsungs software b/c it sucks, and no help from their tech support!!!! I donwloaded the latest version of BITPIM and it works great. I got my phone #'s, I can transfer ringtones with no problems, and also get the pics off my phone. Don't even fool around with the samsung software, it is NOT worth you time!!!!!
