I used the first pricedure to unlock 2 out of 3 X426`s .. good luck.
1. Turn off your phone, put in a SIM of a provider that it is not locked to, and turn it back on.
2. At the wrong card message, type *#9998*3323#. A message will pop up telling you to press exit, so hit the right softkey. Choose number 7 (or 8 or 9 work, I think). Your phone will reboot and your SIM will work.
3. Type *0141# and then hit call. This will give you a message saying your phone is personalized.
4. Power down your phone and insert a SIM card other than the one that is in it. Power back up your phone.
5. At the SIM code prompt type 00000000, that is 8 zeroes.
Your phone should now be unlocked. At least mine seems to be.
If it wont work try to start mobile without sim and then type:
*2767*cust# (the same as*2767*2878#)
then start mobile with sim and now you can start over typing codes
If you get the "3323 Wrong Entry" error message then follow these procedures
1> Type *#06# on your phone and write down your IMEI (you'll need it later) or get it from the back of your phone.
2> Put a simcard from another provider and power on your phone
3> At the "wrong card" message type: *2767*688YOURIMEI, for
example: *2767*68835363900065487#
(imei is 14 digits ignore the 3 digits after the slash "/")
4> Your phone will reboot and then your simcard from other provider will work
--this 4 steps is for a temporary unlocking, when you power of your phone
it'll be locked again, to permanently unlock it continue to step 5--
5> After your phone has rebooted on step 4, dont press any key or do anything,
just type this: *0141# and hit the send button
6> A message will appear telling you that your phone is personalized
7> Shut off the phone and enter the SIM of yet another carrier, Cingular.
8> At the "Enter SIM lock password" screen, enter eight zeros as in 00000000.
9> YOUR PHONE IS NOW UNLOCKED

I saw posts from other forum that the procedure will only work for rev. 1.6 or lower. To check the rev. key in *#9999# and it will be displayed on the screen. If it is 1.7 or higher, it can only be unlocked using unlock software.
Even if the phone is unlocked, I believe it can only be used in N. America and not Australia since Australia is same as Ireland that use 900/1800 and not 850/1900 which X426 is using. Unlocking the phone won't make it change to 900/1800.
