can u have your own sounds for text message alert?

just like it says, does anyone know how to set your own alert sound instead of the phones preset sounds for a text message?

unfortunately, i don't think you can do it through a data cable, unless you're manually changing the insides of the phone.. simply put, you'd have to mess around with some things in the phone's infrastructure, which could be lethal unless you're really sure what you're doing.
