#16 | | Junior Member | Yeah, I almost took it back in the 14 day. But I thought I'd be able to make this all work at some point - so I guess we'll see if I was right or not.

Not very knowledgeable about the whole unlocking process with Alltel, but I’m curious to here the results from your experience. Let us know!
Someone educate me, whats the chance this phone has the capabilities to connect to another phone, or computer for that matter and it is just disabled by Alltel or the manufacturer?

#22 | | Junior Member | I contacted Alltel via email and, surprisingly, got a response. According to the response, Alltel's technical support department doesn't have any information about the phone being locked down. They said that they have requested more information and will contact me as soon as they find out more. They did suggest that the locking was done through the firmware, in which case you'd be voiding the warranty of the phone by trying to reflash it.
In any case, I will post if I hear any more from them.

#24 | | Junior Member | Still nothing from Alltel, but from playing around I found two secret menus. In both cases, the password should be '000000'. Also note that messing around with this stuff can easily mess up your phone, so do so at your own risk. Systems Info menu: go to the main menu, then to settings, and then hit the '0' key. What it has: Debug Screen, Test Calls, Voice SO, Port Map, Force Mode, Throughput Test, Pref Mode, Bluetooth, Data Pref. Service Programming menu: from the main menu, hit the '0' key.
(Note: Your phone will automatically reboot after you exit this menu) What it has: ESN, AKEY, NAM Programming, Slot Cycle Index, Service Programming
Now, does anyone know how this can be of use? I got this idea from some hacking instructions for another Samsung phone, so my idea is that there's got to be some codes from other phones that also work on the U420. EDIT: Found two more hidden menus Brew Info menu: go to the main menu, then to Axcess shop, and then hit the '0' key. What it has: Primary DNS IP, Secondary DNS IP, Carrier ID, Platform ID, Brew Primary URL, Brew Secondary URL, Brew Bkey, Brew ABkey, Brew Auth, Eula Support, Min for Sid, Test Enable, Brew Policy Browser Settings menu: go to the main menu, then to Axcess web, and then hit the '0' key. The password is your security code (last 4 digits of phone number). What it has: Primary DNS, Secondary DNS, Proxy address, Common Settings.

#26 | | Junior Member | I was hoping I could say I found a solution, but I still don't have much more. Alltel has still not responded. Regardless, I still have a few more things to share.
First, to address a problem I saw on another forum, and for future reference: You should, even with a phone in its default state, be able to access its file system from BitPim via USB. Although some directories won't allow you to read or write files, you can still browse around a bit. Anyways, here is what worked for me:
Use the driver from http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...DMA_Driver.exe, and make sure to reboot your computer before plugging your phone in. If you are still having troubles, as I was, try rebooting your phone as well.
Second, and something that should be a little more interesting...
After trying numerous codes from other Samsung phones, I finally found one that works for the U420. When entered, it will yield a strange command prompt of sorts titled MANUAL FTM. Enter it as you would a phone number (it should pop up right after you finish entering the code, no need to press SEND or anything). WARNING: This code is very dangerous and could screw up your phone very easily! You've been warned! 47*68#13580
To exit the mode, either press 002, or if you type something incorrectly, remove your battery. Both will reboot your phone.
More commands that might possibly work can be found at Samsung Hacks -- igophoto Life Hosting. I would suggest extreme caution when experimenting with these, however, as they are for different models of phones. I have found some bit of inconsistency from one phone to another, so don't take those codes as perfect. Also, I would advise you NEVER to use the commands 028 or 029 as they will almost certainly brick your phone (or so I've read)!
Anyways, I still have hope we can figure this out. Good luck, and please share if you happen to find something of use!

#29 | | Newbie | Has anyone messed about with the lock in the bluetooth menu of system info? Hit # in the bluetooth option of the system info menu and it asks for a 10 digit key.

#30 | | Junior Member | Oh, nice work! By doing a Google search I came up with the 10 digit key, which is: 8886573982. In this new menu is: SYSINFO Editor, USERPREFS Editor, and Build Version. Not sure how to use any of this, but I definitely think we're on to something here! I'm going to do some searching now for further answers...
