I just got a t629 for christmas, and i'm trying to get music onto it. I have a microSD memory card (1Gig), but i don't know how to get the music onto it. What program should I use? I have already formatted the card with the phone, but when i try putting music onto it I always get an error message.

    Thanks.

Now that you have the micro sd card, you need to get the phone to "format" it. Insert the micro sd card into the phone and go to the menu, then Fun & Apps, My Files and look for the Memory Card in the list. When you click on it, it will say its not formatted, so say yes to formatting. After it is complete, it will have created folders on the micro sd card. Once that is finished, you can take it out, put it in the sd converter and put it in your card reader. Whatever drive letter gets assigned to the sd card will have those folders. Just save the files in the appropriate folder. Mp3 and image files can easily be copied into their folders ( music for mp3), but video files will require conversion to 3gp format or mp4 before they will play on the phone.

OK, now I have formatted the card with the phone, but i have trouble transfering music. Will it accept WMAs? If not, what program can I use to convert my music to MP3s? Thanks for the help.

If you can't run wma files, then I'm guessing they have to be mp3 files. Here's a link to a freeware wma to mp3 converter:

    Freeware Files.com - Download

It's very easy to install and use. Just runn and add the wma file(s) and it is set by default to convert to 192kbps mp3 files. Expect the mp3's to be larger. (P.S. if the MB file is 1MB or smaller, you may be able to set it as a ringtone. I don't know the exact size limit.)

Also, here's a link to a free video converter that will convert from mpg or avi to 3gp videos, which will work on your phone. I've taken 80 MB music videos down to 6.1 MB videos that look and play well on the phone. Here's a link to that converter:

    Download PlatoVideoTo3GP.exe

Re: Help with samsung t629 music

Hi, I just got the t629 a couple days ago, and my Corsair MicroSD 1gig came today. I was excited and immediately tried to put it in. Upside down. I don't know, it made more sense that way- you know, with the label of the card facing the same way as the screen. It didn't fit obviously, and after looking closely at the ridiculusly tiny card icon on the slot cover, I figured out it went in the other way. I hadn't pushed it in hard or anything upside down, once I realized it didn't fit that way I carefully pulled it back out. I was paranoid from the start that I'd screwed something up accidentally, so I was being really careful not to force it.

But then when I put it in the right way, the screen kept flashing 'Memory Card Inserted' or whatever. At first I thought maybe since it was a gig it was just taking a little bit to think about it, but it kept doing it. I'd open the phone or unlock the keys and it would stop flashing it for a second, but then go back to it. I dug out the User Guide but could find NOTHING about how to insert a card or what to do if there was a problem, so I searched online for a couple minutes, finding nothing that helped.

Finally, I carefully took the card out, checked it carefully for dust or anything that could be causing problems, and blew into the slot- just in case somehow dust had gotten into it in the two days I've had it even though I'd never touched the slot before. Put the card back in, and it flashes the message once, then returns to normal, with the little MicroSD icon at the top of the screen. Success! Or so I thought.

So my next thought was to figure out how to put some music on it, I googled, and this thread turns up. I begin following the instructions. Fun and apps-->My Files-->Memory Card... "Access Fail Please Reinsert Memory Card"

So... now what? Did I screw up apparantly incredibly fragile workings when I accidentally put the card in upside down? Is there something wrong with my phone? Perhaps is the card faulty? I'm hoping that I'm just missing something really simple, but I'm also pretty freaked out that I've somehow voided my warranty or something.

    Someone please help?

I understand your frustration. Installing the card can be a bit tricky. You are correct to put it in upside down (metal contacts up) or else it simply won't fit. When you slide it in, it should lock into place. It sort of clicks in, so be sure you pushed it in to the point that it's not hanging out and be careful not to let it spring back out. You should be able to close the flap when you have it in. You should get the message flashing that the memory card was inserted, but you're right that it shouldn't remain flashing. I think that is the phone's way of indicating a problem. I have a 1 GB micro sd card that may not be the same brand, but the phone can read it. Try shutting everything down, remove and reinsert the card and lock it into place and then power the phone up.

If you absolutely can't get the card to work, I wouldn't don't worry that you made the warranty invalid. There would be no point in having that card slot if using one meant violating the warranty. There's always a possibility of a bad card or that for some reason the phone isn't compatible with all the micro sd cards out there. I'd check with Samsung's tech support or your service provider. A lot of times those cell phone service branches will help.

Oh, great! That seems to have worked! I feel silly for not trying something like that myself, now, but I'm very relieved that it wasn't something more serious! Thank you very much! =)

Re: Help with samsung t629 music

Try taking the music back off first, and letting your phone reformat the card as described in the first reply to this topic. That puts some folders onto the card, so when you then put the card into your computer, you can put the mp3s into the music file. The mp3s need to be under a certain bitrate, too, so that might also have something to do with it?

Re: Help with samsung t629 music

ok so I tried that again, and it is still storing the music as "other files" on my phone even though i put them in the music file on the computer.(and they are in the music file on my phone). I am dragging and dropping files right off itunes. is that a problem? they are mostly 128 kbps and under. Also i changed them to AAC audio files. aahh this is really frustrating

Re: Help with samsung t629 music

I don't know whether dragging and dropping from iTunes would work or not, to be honest. That -could- be your problem. I know I dug around for the source files and put those on the microSD, and aside from the fact that my phone still seems to dislike my microSD card, when I get it to work, it does recognize and play the files alright.

What's your OS? I've got mac OSXpanther, I know things tend to be very different on a PC, and it's been a few years since I used windows (I never got further than win98!), so if you're on a PC someone else might be able to help you more than I could. 0_o

Re: Help with samsung t629 music

    Hey,

I have the t629, I have gotten music to play on my phone.. but my phone will not let me set any of my songs as ringtones. I get a message that says "This file is too long to be set as a ringtone"

Anyway I can get around this.. I have tried files with different bitrates and sizes. There is a default song on there that came with the phone, and i have tried sizes larger and smaller than the default song.

    Thanks!

I put songs on the memory card, then I put the memory card in the phone. When I go to add the songs to my music player from the memory card it says "not allowed" when I select the song. How do I get the songs to play?
