Trouble with Samsung A437 - is sync better?

I just upgraded my phone to a Samsung A437 from a Motorola Razr (had it for a year and a half and it died). The new phone is cute, but the call quality is poor - it's fuzzy and the line cuts in and out, regardless of where I use it or who I am calling to.

Would a Samsung Sync be better? How is the battery life? TIA for advice!
