Can't format my memory card!

** I'll send you a couple bucks via Paypal if you can help me fix this!!! I'M DESPERATE!!!*

Alright, so the other day I got a Samsung T-439. I already filled up the internal memory, so I wanted to buy a memory card so I could take more videos and pictures. Sounds simple, right? I went to Target today and I bought a Micro SD card that came with an adapter. It's the right card, it fits correctly in the slot, and I'm putting it in the right position (I'm a pretty tech-savvy person when it comes to this stuff in most cases).

But now I'm stumped. First of all, the manual says nothing about formatting a memory card for the phone, but I did manage to find some directions online (which for some stupid reason I can't link to because I don't have "20 posts"). Despite following the directions and my own intuition, I still can't get the blasted card to work!

Here's what I'm doing:
1. Put the card in the computer and click on 'My Computer', then right-click on Removable Disk H:\ and click 'Format..' (then it comes up with 1.87GB for the capacity, FAT32 for the file system, and then I click 'Start' and seconds later 'Format Complete' pops up.)

2.
a.)Take out the card and put it into my phone. Then according to Samsung's instructions I'm supposed to go to Menu --> Fun and Apps --> Files --> Memory Card --> Options --> Memory Card Info --> Format. However, half the time I can't the only thing under 'Options' is 'Create New Folder', there is nothing saying 'Memory Card Info' for me to be able to select 'Format'.

b.) The other half of the time though, however, it does give me the option to go to Memory Card Info --> Format (I don't know why it shows it sometimes, and other times it doesn't... weird.) So when I click on 'Format' it tells me "Formatting will erase all data. Continue?" and when I hit "Yes" it ends up telling me "Error" and that's it.

I'm so confused! I've contact Samsung about this and haven't heard back from them. Is the phone a dud? Is the memory card a dud? Is there another way to format it? I'm so lost right now!

Re: Can't format my memory card!

Their isnt much to formatting a card. If you just want to delete whats on it to store other stuff putting it in the computer and deleting it all will do. I would put a small file like an mp3 on it then insert it into your phone and see if it picks it up. If it does your card is working fine and you shouldnt need to format it again on the phone itself. If you just jacked the card somehow make sure to swap it out at the store asap as most stores when it comes to memory have a very short return policy.

Edit: when i bought my card it was good to go and i just added music on it and stuck it in and it worked, though it comes up as storage card 2 instead of just storage card on my blackjack why i do not know.

Re: Can't format my memory card!

I have the same problem...
I have just bought a 4GB SanDisk memory card for my samsung.
I bought it from play.com and it doesn't seem to be working so well.
On my phone it says that the memory card is inserted but when i go into the files and click on memory status- memory card, it reloads my phone and nothing happens. When i click on the memory card itself a message comes up saying 'unrecognised. format?' i press yes and it says failed every single time.
I want to know how to format it and why it isn't working. Some people say it is damaged but i have just bought it so it cant be!!
I thought i might have been able to do it by putting the memory card in my phone and conecting it to the computer and somehow formatting it then but it still wont show up on my computer. It has come with an adapter and i would also like to know how you just put the memory card into the computer.
This would really help because i was really looking forward to putting more songs and photos and videos onto my phone so i got a memory card and it doesn't work! So please say someone can help me xx

Re: Can't format my memory card!

I'm not sure about the formatting issue, but I did read on the Samsung site that while they say the Blackjack 2 can use 4GB cards, they recommend using 2GB max.

Has anyone successfully used a 4GB card in a BJ2?

Re: Can't format my memory card!

hey i have the same problem, i read through the user manual online, and it turns out for my phone at least the card needs to be formatted in a FAT16 format, i assume the card default is 32 which the phone can't read!! i have a memory card slot in my laptop and i did the same and plugged it in and tried formatting, if you go to FAT default and then use the 16kb file allocation option there's a CHANCE it might work... though my laptop go to the final bit of formatting and then told me it couldn't finish it in that format option... the card needs to be reformatted in the phone, but all it comes up with is Error! any one got any more ideas?
