Bell samsung sch u740 (dual flip) Video ring tone for text messaging

Hey everyone! I was checking out video ring tones the other day, and i successfully got a video ring tone from my computer to my phone (via my usb cable). I could set as a ring tone for voice calls, and life was pretty good. Then, I tried to set a video ring tone as the ring for receiving ring tones, and found out the option was not there. For voice calls i go to menu > settings > sounds > ringer type > voice calls > with caller id > Then it gives me a few options ( single tones, ring tones, melodies, downloads, My videos. I hit "my videos, set my video as the ring tone. When i go to messaging instead of "voice calls" it gives me all the options except for "my videos" to be used as ring tones.

Can anyone tell me if/how i can put video ring tones as ring tones for text messaging? I'm on bell btw, and i do not want to send them from computer to phone using the internet on my phone as i do not have a plan for it.

This tutorial was not made by me, it was posted by $partacus on forums.wirelessadvisor.com. This is the tutorial i used.

Step 1 – Select the sound file you wish to use. Remember you won’t be hearing the whole song, so choose something with a good chorus or intro you enjoy.

-THEN-

Step 2a – If you have access to a program which allows you to trim mp3 files at the points you’d like, do so. You now have your ringtone!

-OR-

Step 2b – If you don’t have access to such a program, download a freeware product which will let you convert mp3 to wav. Convert your file, and then open it in your Windows Sound Recorder program which can be found in Accessories>Entertainment. Use the edit options to trim your long wav song into a short wav ringtone. Save it, and convert your new wav file back into mp3 format. You now have your ringtone!

-THEN-

Step 3 – Download a program which will let you convert mp3 to 3g2. I had a rather hard time finding one, so to help you out I’ll suggest looking here

-Then-

Step 4 –Install and open your conversion program. Select your ringtone wav or mp3 and if able to, disable video and alter the bit rate to suit your needs. Choose .3g2 as the file format you wish to output, and then convert your file.

-THEN-

Step 5 – Whip out your a900 and shoot a short camcorder movie of whatever. You only need to do this once.

-THEN-

Step 6– Connect your a900 to your pc using the USB cable it came with, then on your handset select tools>mass storage>connect to pc. This will let you upload files onto your phone.

-THEN-

Step 7 – On your PC look in “My Computer” for a drive which will appear as something like “Removable Disk”. Explore into it and click through DCIM> 100SSMED (or whatever is on your phone). Here you should see whatever pictures you’ve taken with your phone as well as any video. Copy the filename of the movie you shot in step 5.

-THEN-

Step 8 – Copy your ringtone in 3g2 format into the folder containing your sample camcorder movie. Delete your sample camcorder movie and rename your new ringtone file by single clicking and then pasting the sample movie’s name into it. For example, my new ringtone after I’ve done steps 1-8 is now called SSPX0033.3g2

-THEN-

Step 9 – To finally set your uploaded song as a ringtone, disconnect your a900 from your pc, then enter Settings>Sounds>Ringer type>Voice calls>With caller id> then scroll down to My Videos. You will see a file with a box and an X in it. Highlight it, select Options and select Play. If you’ve done your job you will be able to hear your new ringtone. If so, click back and then click assign. This ringtone will now play whenever someone calls and your phone is able to id them. To use it as an individual ringtone, go through your contacts list.

Final note - For any subsequent ringtones youll be making, just be sure to change the number in your final 3g2 file, such as SSPX0034.3g2 instead of SSPX0033.3g2

THANKS FOR ANY HELP!
