so far so good, but of course one issue... the file is to large and won't open on my phone... The phone tells me that it exceeds 512K.

how do i reduce the size of the mp3 file before converting it to 3g2?

I got it! But I was wondering if you can set the ringers for when people text me. When I go to select ringer, it doesn't show the My Videos option. Only my stuff, my melodies and then the default phone ringers. Any advice? THANKS!

Buy a new phone. I have tried every way to get the ringers for free. It's impossible to get free ringers on the Samsung Rant. Anyone who offers you suggestions own (or are working for) the websites they tell you to use. None of them will work. Sprint tech support says it's the 3g network. It's setup to block out all those sites. And they seem to have also have protected themselves in a lot of other ways that I've tried.

If you are pissed off about not getting free ringtones on your Samsung Rant, don't ever buy a Samsung phone or 3g phone again.

In short: 3g phones don't allow free ringtones. Buy a different phone, or buy the ring tones that you want.

Changing the format of the Mp3 and uploading it to your phone would sound pretty slick, but it DOES NOT WORK. This was the first thing I tried, but Samsung anticipated this, so it takes it right off once you assign it. Or if it sticks, it won't play any sound. There's no way to get free ringtones on a Samsung Rant. It's a 3g phone and they've cut off all ways to get free ringtones. That especially includes using a website as a third party to send yourself the ringtones. Any blog post suggesting that you use a website is written by someone trying to promote their site.

The easiest way to download ringtones for the Rant is to go to Mixxer.com.
Just choose a ringtone that you want to download.Copy the web page URL of that ringtone. Now log into your Sprint PCS account. Under the 'My Sprint' tab you will see a text messaging section in the bottom right hand corner. Paste the URL into the message box and enter the phone number that you want the text message sent to in the 'Recipient Phone Number' box. Once you receive the message you should be able to link in and and download ringtones for free.

Just a heads-up to those of you on the Sprint/Nextel Network, I tried doing all these things to just get ANY 3rd party ringtones onto my phone(doesn't matter model) with no success. I was advised by Sprint and other 3rd party vendors that Sprint blocks or filters any attempt of transfer of outside ringtones. I guess the transmission must go through their servers prior to being sent to your device and they trap them there. They want you to buy from them and their vendors only, but they say it's for their consumers protection.

I had the same problem. I would send ringtones from the site and never received the text message. I clarified the problem by contacting Sprint and asking to remove the 'Premium message Block'. I've been able to download after that.

I just called Sprint Customer Service from my phone *2 and asked the rep. He removed the block and I was able to download in minutes. Hope this helps.

If your phone has 'Premium Messages blocked', 'send ringtone to phone' option won't work from the ringtone website. You will need to log into your Sprint account and text yourself the web URL, or contact Sprint and have them remove the block.
