Hey everyone. I got a Katana LX or Sanyo 3800. I also bought a micro-usb cable seperate and when I tried to plug it in I got a message saying "Windows cannot find software" and it didn't appear as a removable disk in My Computer. My usb is fine though since it works with my iPod and other stuff. Any suggestions as to what's wrong?

Re: Katana LX (3800) usb driver?

I also have this phone. I looked everywhere for a driver and found nothing. I eventually called Sprint Customer Service. The woman I spoke with told me, at first, that I should have gotten a CD with my purchase of the phone. She put me on hold and went to see if she could have one sent to me.

Eventually, she came back and told me that there are NO drivers for this phone. None. Essentially, in order to transfer pics and phone book information to your PC, you have to email it, leaving you subject to their internet + data usage charges.

To be honest, I am kind of ticked off about it. I didn't think to ask about this when I bought the phone since it is virtually unheard of, anymore. I also wasted money on a data cable. I am not sure why they are even selling data cables for this phone when they are useless.

Add me to the list of people looking for this driver. Just shelled out for the overpriced cable (Bell Mobility), and am getting frustrated on the driver search. Seems like there used to be a download from Sprint but nomore.

As far as I could figure out, CAN, there has never been a driver for this. If there was, then surely it would still be found online, somewhere.

This phone is, at best, 6-8 months old at the time of this posting (from what I can gather). It was unveiled earlier this year in the Spring at CTIA by Sanyo and Sprint. So this isn't some dated phone. This is pretty current. I just find it appalling that they are selling data cables for upwards of $20 for this thing when, at best, it is only good for charging your phone at the computer. And, even on the Sprint website as an accessory for this phone, it is being marketed as a data/power cable. At that point, you may as well save the money on the cable and use your wall charger.

I am just trying to figure out who to contact about my distaste for this. I am considering (another) a call to Sprint. If this had been explained to me at the point of sale, I would have gone with another phone that DOES have data-to-PC capability.

As always, I am open to being proven wrong. My goal is not to bash Sprint or Sanyo. I just want my phone to operate as expected.

Re: Katana LX (3800) usb driver?

I've gone to the online support pages for both Sanyo and Bell Mobility and requested that they send me the USB driver. Perhaps if a few other people do the same, they'll make it available. Maybe...

Re: Katana LX (3800) usb driver?

I emailed Sprint Tech Support and received the following response:

    Dear xxxxx xxxxx,

Thank you for contacting Sprint. I understand that you want to transfer
    your contacts and Pictures.

Unfortunately, we do not provide any software to transfer the pictures
from your phone to PC without Picture mail pack. You need to add Picture
mail pack for $5.00 to transfer the picture.

You can not transfer your contacts from your phone to PC. We do offer a
service (Wireless Backup) that allows customers to store contact
information on a server, which can automatically be restored to their
phone, or to a new phone if the old one is damaged, lost, stolen or
    being upgraded.
The monthly charge for this will be $2.00.

To subscribe to Wireless Backup from a phone, please follow the steps
    given below:

    - Select Menu from the main screen.
    - Scroll down to Contacts or Settings, press OK.
    - Scroll down till you see the Wireless Backup option, press OK.
    - Select option to subscribe to Wireless Backup, press OK.
    - You will receive a confirmation window with the message, Connect to
Vision to check your Wireless Backup subscription status. Select Yes,
    then press OK.
    - You will see the message, Wireless Backup is not active on your phone.
Learn More? - Select Yes, then press OK. If the customer chooses not to
purchase at this time, they can cancel.
    - Select Wireless Backup purchase? Select Buy and press OK.

Thank you again for contacting Sprint. We appreciate your business.

    Sincerely,
    Jory S.
    Customer Service Specialist
    Sprint

Re: Katana LX (3800) usb driver?

    Its getting circular...
    From Bell Mobility I got
"Upon full review of your email, unfortunately we do not have this
information available. Please contact Sanyo Wireless Customer Support
    (Canada) at 1-800-263-2244."

    From Sanyo I got:
"Thank you for contacting SANYO Service Canada.

The firmware and the USB driver of this model is exclusively written for Bell Mobility. They are incorporated with Bell Connect software. Please contact Bell Mobility for more information. No separate driver is available."

    Sigh.

You need to download the Sprint software for free from their website.

    It comes with a driver.

It is the Sprint SmartView software.. which still doesn't give you the option of transferring pictures and phonebook data to your PC. I spent a good bit of time going over it, myself, and if the option to transfer phone data to the PC is there, I have been unable to find it.

I've spoken to Sprint, directly, and they've confirmed that you can not transfer pics and other data from the Katana LX to your PC without paying their internet and data usage charges.

You can't transfer files that way with these phone (as far as I know, and I've looked)

The only way you can transfer pics is through picture mail, and you can send picture mail to your phone with Sprint's website.

DataPilot claims you can back up your phone book with their software.
Maybe MobileAction Handset manager might work too.

    I don't know.

Re: Katana LX (3800) usb driver?

DataPilot/BitPim was the first thing I tried. I actually found that suggested elsewhere on this forum. The Katana LX (SCP-3800) isn't supported.

On your suggestion, I went to check out the Mobileaction Handset Manager. Again (unfortunately), the Katana LX (SCP-3800) is not supported.

I do believe that this phone is a lost cause in the data-to-PC department.

DataPilot does support Phonebook and Picture download. The correct cable is included with the Motorola Kit. I do not know if it is in another kit. I still have not found a way to get ringtones from the computer to the phone using the data cable.

Re: Katana LX (3800) usb driver?

I'm sorry. I need to correct myself. It was BitPim that doesn't support the Katana LX. As for DataPilot, they list it on their site and say that it allows you to read/write to the address book and read images from the phone. But that's all. Still, that's what I am looking to do. I will try it out.

As for getting Ringtones on the Katana, I believe you have to go to your Content Manager on Sprint.com. You can't transfer the ringers from your PC to the phone with a data cable... not on the LX, anyway. You look like you have a pic of the Katana 2. No idea if that works the same way.

    skratte,

DataPilot works just fine if you only want to read/write to the address book and read images from the phone. I have it and it works well with my Katana LX SP-3800. (Still have no idea how to remove the Katana II from showing up with my post. I am looking into that.)
