How to send international messages

Ok I'm from Mexico and i just wanted to know if u can send messages to someone in another country and how to do it, a friend told me my provider allowed me to do it, but i certainly don't know how, can someone help me??

also, some phone company providers let you send free sms messages from their website as long as the person you're sending too is under their network. for example, in canada, rogers wireless does that~
