im just about to buy this phone with a new contract, now i saw on here someplace where they showed what to push in order to get the firmware info, was wondering if anyone could link me to that
also which is the latest firmware that is available, so i know if the phone im about to buy has the latest firmware on it
and one more question, is it easy to change firmware's, because ive read some (i think rodgers) are able to shut off the camera sound

    thanks for all your help

the code to get into your service menu is:
    >*<<*<* <=left on directional pad >=right on directional pad
The latest unbranded firmware that's available to download is R1a032 to my knowledge.

And if you want to remove the shutter sound on the phone you can do so by using a T28 Unlock cable and a remote server credit. and at the same time you can flash to phone to unbrand it or unlock the phone This same method can be used the upgrade the firmware later on when new firmware is released.

check out my sig for details, or PM me.

    good luck!

ive had problems with cingular people not wanting to update my firmware for me. i want to keep my cingular firmware because i like the edge technology and i have heard that unbranding removes that ability, but why are they so reluctant to do it?

latest firmware now available is: S710a USA R2A016 This is Unbranded firmware with no MMS/WAP locks.

unbranding the phone does not remove EDGE. Many people use this phone on EDGE with t-mobile in the few test markets they have launched it in.

Purchased S710a about 90 days ago. The camera does not work - or did I do something wrong? Opening the lens shows message "Camera Starting", but, when lens snapped, there is no photo or offer to "Save", etc. Please help. Write direct, private message - is preferred.

it automactically saves the photo, and if you want to delete it, press the 'c' button.

    S710a Camera failure

Photos never shows up in "VIEW", etc, and never show up on disk as before, nor are they stored in camera memory. Seems they are not recorded at all. And, the disk memory is not full.

Well, it took me forever to find someone who knew what they were talking about. I've hear about this new firmware, a couple of hacking methods to get rid of it, etc. So, how, in lamens terms, could I get rid of this stupid shutter sound?

Well, I called Cingular about it, and they have no idea what the hell a "firmware" is, let alone how to update it. I was told by a local representative that the stores do not have the needed equipment, but Cingular could either e-mail the update or text it straight to my phone. So, I got transferred to Sony Ericsson, who says I would have to send my phone to North Carolina for 7-10 business days in order to complete such a task. I think this is getting pretty ridiculous.

When you flash the phone using total multi server you have the option to remove the shutter sound.

    Good luck!

if i update my firmware on my s710a, it will delete all my themes im guessing. but i love my cingular_bloc theme, the cool moving blue one that comes standard from cingular. is there anyplace i can redownload that later? cause its not letting me transfer it to my computer to put back on after i update...

I have an S710a and my camera has a shutter sound select of either OFF or three other sounds. My provider is Cingular and I have had my phone for about three months now. To turn off the shutter sound just start the camera, press settings, scroll to shutter sound and select "no sound".
