I have a T610 and have successfully transferred photos, contacts etc to an old Compaq laptop with built-in infrared. Just installed a USB infrared adaptor on a different laptop (Sony PCG-FX501, Win XP Home) - the IR was new, from ebay, by Donshine Electronics. Device manager says all working ok but when I try to synchronise MS Outlook using the T610's Xtend facility I get the message "link interrupted or the device has moved out of range". I don't have a data cable for this phone, nor bluetooth on this computer (the bluetooth headset works fine). Now have a Nokia 6230i and I want to shift contacts, tones and pics from the T610 onto it but can't see how to without an operational infrared facility. Help!

well short of adjusting the speed on the pc for the IR connection, why not just buy a bluetooth adapter, they are really not that expensive.

IR vs bluetooth for transfer of contacts to PC

I do have a bluetooth dongle but whilst it will pair with both phones, there doesn't seem to be a facility to send either address book to the laptop through it.

The Ericsson T610 worked fine with an old laptop with built-in IR, synchronising contacts with Outlook. Maybe just this IR USB adaptor has a driver problem, although I can't find anything to tweak that I haven't already tried. In frustration I forked out for a data cable for the new Nokia 6230i, it sent the contacts that I had bluetoothed from the T610 to Outlook, I sent them from Outlook to Outlook Express and somewhere on the way the whole lot has gone haywire, because the hopeless Nokia lists new numbers as 'other' without an option to place them as home, work, mobile, or email. The T610 fails on its lack of FM radio but I never thought the Nokia would be such a rubbish alternative.

Too late to change my mind on the upgrade to the 6230i, I'm stuck with the useless thing for another year and its only redeeming feature is its radio. The data cable freezes the computer, what a waste of money.

    Irritated? You bet.
