    Hi

I am thinking of getting the Sony Ericson 810i with Rogers Canada.

I was wondering how good the display is. Is it possible to watch videos on this thing. If you had a big enought ram stick could you watch a full length movie.

Maybe it sounds dumb to watch a movie on the phone, but I would alot of night shifts and cant carry any dvd player with me. If I get bored it would be cool if the phone could help pass the time with a movie.. lol

How does eveyone like this phone? Is the camera good and what other things can you do with this phone. It comes with a usb cable I think, so can you sync you outlook and is it possible to have andy word or excel documents on it too?

Any info anyone can send me would be great. I have been looking around for any info on cool stuff this phone can do.

Also if you think there might be another phone I should be looking at for what I want it to be able to do please help me out there too...

Thanks in advance for your help

    Figliano

Do you know where I can get the software to convert video to play on the phone? What is the name of it?

The phone comes with a 1Gig card. Do you think a 2 hour movie would fit on that?

    Thanks

Re: 810i video? is it any good?

the program is called xilisoft 3gp, the great thing about 3gp is that the file compression sze is TINY so if your movie is two hours, assuming it's good quality it will probably be around 600-800mb, but if you convert to 3gp, it will be like 150-200mb!!!!

Re: 810i video? is it any good?

Does anyone have this phone with Rogers Canada?

Do they restrict any of the phones functions, like if you take pictures with the phone can you transfer them to you computer with the USB cable?

I have a friend with a phone and he is with Bell. He cant transfer pictures from his phone to the computer with its USB cable. He would have to buy a card reader and remover the card from the phone.

I just want to make sure Rogers does not restrict anything before I buy it.

    Thanks again

Does anyone know of a FREE 3gp/mp4 converter? I just got a new 1 gig stick for my K750i and I'd love to be able to store movies on my phone.

Re: 810i video? is it any good?

I ened up getting the phone. the 810i. Its nice.
I have been playing around with the xilisoft software to shrink video to put on the phone. The problem is that it does not do the 176x220 size for the phone so the picture is smaller than it needs to be. How can I get it to be the same size as the screen?

Also the program opens up at a bit rate of 40. I have tried a few different settins, all the way to 120. How do you know the max bit rate the phone will show video so I can set everything up to the max the phone will play.

Is there any other good software (free) out there that will put movies on the phone.

Also what else can you do with this phone. What are Java applications? Is there any way to make word or excel documents readable on this phone?
    Thanks

Ironic that you should ask about the screen size - I solved this for myself this morning. I have a video that is quite small. If I play it in the media player and click the fullscreen tab, it plays it fullscreen on fullscreen if you get my drift.

Re: 810i video? is it any good?

    What software are you using?

There must be a max bitrate setting that the phone will play. That way if you go over the bit rate the file will be larger than it needs to be.

I think thats how it works anyway. I could be wrong.

I found that the demo version of "Sony Ericsson Media Studio" Demo made the best picture. the latest version has our the W810i phone support and you dont have to change any settings. It does it all for you. The picture from this is the best I have seen so far. I just done want to use my Visa over the internet to buy it. Not sure if I can get it any where else.

Re: 810i video? is it any good?

I didn't use any software, the video has always been small. Like I said, all I did was shove it in the media player and it played it fullscreen when I clicked that tab.

    Fig,
Congrats on your new phone. I got this phone from Rogers earlier this month too... loving it. Also check out howardforums.com re discussions about branded firmwares. The Rogers f/w prevents mp3s you store from being used as ringtones (I think it was something about DRM). You can search for services that allow you to flash a different (usually newer) f/w. I got mine done through wotanserver. Also it would be nice if you knew a few other ppl who have this phone and want to do the same - more cost effective that way. I regret only doing my own phone b/c since then other ppl got the same phone too.
    Hv fun.

Video on that small screen isn't great. Just too small. I think it would give me a headache.

well i don't know about the 810i, but as far as converting movies are concerned i use "magicbit" I converted a 700+ mb avi to 36 mb it was a bit blocky so i did it again at 60 mb and it was fine, admittedly it was a cartoon movie, but even the 36mb one was ok

    I use a converter called SUPER © .
Supports all sorts of conversions. And gives many great options.
