#6 | | The Mod-erator | For those that find that debranding is too much of a hassle - I found it was, there is a solution. The reason Cingular have disabled the MP3 ringtone feature, is because they want you to only use the ringtones you buy off them. Those ones will work because they're encrypted to work. The ringtones need to be converted to "DRM" before they are accepted to use as actual ringtones. Don't worry - it dosn't differ the sound in any way, it simply removes the encryption if you like...
Bizzarely, the Nokia Moile Internet Tool Kit 4.1 does this for you!? It's a free app so there's nothing stopping you giving it a go. This site gives you a guide of how to do it. Good luck !

On my phone the song shows the mp3 symbol and a key symbol next to it, but it doesn't work! All the mp3's or ringtones that came with the phone show the mp3 symbol and a symbol that looks like the phone next to it...anyone know why my phone isn't accepting these ringtones? Thanks, any help is much appreciated! | what i have found to work was to take the song you want and use an audio editing program, like Adobe Audition or Sony Acid Pro, and re-encode to mp3 format using: 96kbps bit rate, 22kHz sample rate, and 2 channels (stereo). I tried bumping the bit rate up to 128, but the phone doesn't like it as a ringtone. Hope this helps. | | Did you find this post helpful?

#11 | | Newbie | Yeah I just resorted to doing that. I just used audacity and cut the clip I wanted as my ringtone, then just lowering the bitrate to 112, which sounds perfectly fine. It seems to be working this way, and it's pretty simple, so I'll probably just stick with this method thanks for the help! | | Did you find this post helpful?

I'd set the bitrate as 320kbps, then I'd decrease it down and it would sound a tiny bit better. The only problem was, that .amr files never sounded very nice whatever the bitrate was! For .mp3 files though, this method probably gives some nice results.
