#1 | | Newbie | Hi:
n00b here. I have been trying for a few days now to make my own mp3 ringtone that will work. Done lots of reading and searching. I really don't want to do the unbranding thing (Rogers).
What I am hunting for is the option configuration setup info for a w580i in the DRM Packager. In particular:
DRM method setting
Download descriptions settings
Config options for forward lock and combined delivery
If anyone has a w580i and successfully got their own ringtone to work, I would appreciate their settings and audio file type. I can transfer the file to the phone and can play it from the music file. When I try to set it as a ringtone, it says "cannot set as a ring tune"
Also, is there any limitation of file size for a ringtone, and what format is best? I have tried mp3's and wma.
I think my problem is the config settings in DRM Packager.
Thanks

Thanks | I am probably too late, as this post was almosts a month old, but if you are still having problem, then the trick after you have "DRMed" the mp3, is to connect the phone to the PC in "PHONE MODE" and not in "File transfer mode". Once in phone mode, open up the file manager in using the software suite and double click the phone icon and just drag & drop the "DRMed" mp3 to file manager window (not into the file folders), after the coping is done, the phone will prompt you for what you want to use the mp3 as, which you can select as ringtone. Good luck!

#5 | | Junior Member | DRM stands for Digital Rights Management, it is a general term applies to controling the copying of digital contents like music and video, but DRM in what this thread refers to is just a program (Download from the SE developer site) to prepare the MP3 into a 'DRMable' format to let the phone to complete the DRM process before it can be used as a ringtone.

Dave | You can select the output directory for the DRM packager to write to when creating a DRMed file from your MP3. Once that file is created then you need to connect your phone using the USB cable and select phone mode when prompted on the phone. Once connected, you click on the the phone icon on the task tray to select "File manager". When File manager comes up, you should see an folder that look like the phone, double click to go into it and you should see 2 normal looking folders. At this point drag your DRMed file into the window that contain the 2 normal looking folders, but makesure not into either of the 2 folder, just the open space within that window. Once the transfer is completed the phone will promot you what you like to use the MP3 for, then you can select to use as ringtone.

#8 | | Newbie | What settings does the DRM Packager need to be set at? Also, does the file size matter or is there a max? Thanks.

#9 | | Junior Member | I just leave DRM packager setting as default. I have not ran across a size issue with the MP3, but my provider (Rogers) only allow the phone to ring unanswer up to 1.5 min before giving the "customer not reachable msg" then hangs up, so if there is an issue with longer MP3 I wouldn't be able to tell.

#11 | | Junior Member | Did you drag & drop the file into the blank area? Also can you find the file you transferred to the phone using the phone's file manager afterwards? And where (directory) is the file found?

#12 | | Junior Member | I dragged and dropped it where the Memory stick folder and the Phone Memory folder are once you click the phone icon in File Manger.
when its done transfuring the phone tells you where its being transfured and thats it.
when i find it in the phone its listed in the music section

#13 | | Junior Member | Does the DRMed file have the extension 'dm'? If yours works like my then after the transfer the phone will prompt you to use the file now? If you answer yes then it will put up a menu for what the file can be used as, and ringtone is one of the selections.
