    Hi gang,

So, I just got my new 580i in the mail at about 2pm yesterday (tuesday). Pop the charger on, head off to work, and my wife drops it off around 5, fully charged. I play around with it for a bit, type in all my contacts, check out the features, etc... Great phone, cool looking, all that jazz.

So its 10pm wednesday, and my phone is nearly dead.... I've got 43 minutes logged in calls. I think i got a bum battery. Anyone else had this happen?

No, my day I had my W810i it was nicely charged and didnt lose any battery for quite a while. I only made around 10 minutes in calls, but the 810 is known for great battery standby time. I would say its a crummy battery.
Theres some ways you can prevent that.
    1) In Settings, go to Display => Brightness => Turn down the brightness to increase standby time
    2) Make sure the Bluetooth and Infrared are off while not in use, saves a lot of power.

You shouldn't have any problems with the battery if you get a new one, but if it happens again, probably something with the phone.
Private message me if that hppens and I can help you out

My sis has this phone and she was suffering the same issue. You may to try what changtaiwaner said, she also use the same method. It's not really save the battery life but at least it reduce the draining speed. If you're not using/listening to the mp3, it's best to close it, it can help to save the battery as well. You can also play with the pedometer to track your phone usage.

    Re: battery issues w580i

    update,

Well, now that im done playing around with the settings and seeing what I can do, it does have a decent battery life. I average around 5 days or so, depending on whether I play games with it. The walkman feature, I could care less about, I have an mp3 player on me at all times. Only other concerns I have are the m2 cover and the battery cover. The m2 cover scares me. I got a 256mb card free, and boy howdy. That cover doesnt open without messing it up. I dont need a bigger mem card, but my cover is going to break in half if I open it too many more times. I'm around 4 times opening it currently. The battery cover, well, I had trouble installing it. Havent been able to get it off. I think if I ever need a new battery, I'll just go to an att store and tell them to install it.

    Re: battery issues w580i

Messing around with features such as the camera, music and internet are probably the most likely causes. My K800i dosn't last for long when these features are greatly relied on. A few things you can try:

    * Lowering the brighness

    * Using flight mode when relying on the Walkman and Camera for long periods

    * Keeping the volume lowish on the Walkman (If you can bear it )

    * Keep the phone on charge where and whenever possible

    * Turn down the ringtone volume if recieving calls frequently

If the battery life does appear to indeed be a fault with the firmware, just keep it cool and wait until SE come out with a patch up for it. If the low battery appears to be a hardware issue with a few batches of the models, then I would suggest returning it under warrenty if you have a faulty W580i .
